Sensing he’s being intentionally vague, I stop in my tracks, nearly falling over when he continues walking with my hand in his. I arch my brow in question when he turns to make eye contact with me.

“Okay. I bought the place for the day.”

“What?”

“I don’t like crowds.”

Blinking at him, I wait for more information. This man has lost it.

“It’s harder than you think dealing with security and whatnot.”

“You didn’t have any problem when we went to Mystic Mountain to ride the bobsleds.”

“That was different.”

I ball my fists and place them on my hips. “Why?”

Broadie comes closer. “I was obsessed with the need to get to know you. And for you to get to know me. I thought we established this already. There wasn’t much I wouldn’t have done.”

“Is it too late to rethink this relationship?”

“Yes!” He huffs, pulling me along beside him.

We meander about the place, taking in the sights. There is a tranquility garden for picnicking by the river, a splash pad for cooling off from the heat, a zip line to allow seeing the falls from a bird’s eye view, and a beautiful beach.

As we make the trip back toward the front of the park, it dawns on me that there weren’t any photographers around as I’d suspected, given his earlier statements. I begin to ask him where we could get some photos of the two of us together when my eyes land on the most peculiar sight. This park actually has a designated area for weddings. Covering my face with my hands, I point to the sign that reads, Tie De Knot. It’s honestly the last thing I would’ve expected to find here. But apparently, I’m the only one shocked to see it as I turn to find Broadie down on one knee.

“Oh my god.”

“Poppy, everything about our first trip to Jamaica could’ve gone so wrong. I lost my heart to you on this magical island. I knew if you left me, once you discovered all that I’d done, you might as well have put it in a jar on your shelf like a forgotten souvenir. Because it would never belong to anyone else.”

“Broadie,” I gush.

“I couldn’t wait to get back here, to make sure all of our memories of Jamaica were happy ones.” He stands up, holding the most incredible platinum cushion cut diamond I’ve ever seen out for me. “Please, Poppy? Make me the happiest man alive and say you’ll be mine?”

There’s no hesitation. “Yes. Yes.”

He quickly scoops me up in his arms, spinning me around. As he slows us down, my eyes land on a photographer standing just to the right of the signage. Beside him is a minister.

“Broadie?”

“We don’t have to. We can wait and have a big wedding or plan a big party if that’s what you want. But I had the feeling since we’d been there and done that already, it might be nice to make this about us.”

My inclination is to go for it. But I only have one real hesitation. “Broadie, my mother would be so disappointed if we got married without her.”

“I thought you might say that.”

Out of the blue, Stu walks over. “Someone wanted to say hi.” He chuckles.

As Stu hands his iPad off to Broadie, my mother and Agnes come into view.

“Mom, Agnes. Hi! How on earth did you two figure out how to videocall with Stu?”

“We had some help,” Agnes says, waggling her brows at the gentleman standing beside them.

“Hey, Max. I owe you one, man.”

“I think you owe me more than one.” He chuckles.
