Ignoring me, Lucian stalked toward Eva, grabbed her bags, and demanded. “What the hell are you doing here? Isn’t there a wedding in less than a week requiring your attention?”

“Hey, jackass, since this is my place, should I be the one asking questions to my visitors?”

“Shut up, Pierce. She is my sister. Therefore, I’m in charge.” Lucian’s attention returned to Eva. “Answer the damn question.”

“You’re in charge. Really?” Eva rolled her eyes. “And to answer your nicely worded question. Isn’t it obvious? I’m here to kick the ass of the man who broke our baby sister’s heart.”

Immediately, I remembered the pain and devastation on Sophia’s face as she walked away from me. She believed I’d broken her heart at the moment, but soon, she would realize she’d escaped with her life.

I’d lured her into my web as I’d done to my other subs. She deserved so much better than anything I could offer her.

“What do you have in here?” Lucian lifted the overflowing bag. “It weighs a ton.”

“Resources. Bring it to the kitchen and set it on the counter.”

“Whatever you plan to bring about my ultimate demise has to be better than his plan to psychoanalyze me. I’d rather endure torture.”

We both followed her in.

Once Lucian set the tote down, Eva unzipped it.

I opened my arms as I’d done when Lucian arrived. “Do your worst.”

“So dramatic. No wonder the two of you are friends.” Eva removed a set of covered dishes from the bag and placed them on the island.

“We’re not friends,” Lucian countered. “What the hell is all of that? Are you planning to poison him?”

“I originally planned to redecorate this ice palace, as Sophia calls it, by flinging the food I brought all over the place, but looking at him, I think I’ll feed him.”

Lucian hummed, “That’s not a bad idea considering how poison was a nice plot point in the murder scenario Sophia lived through over the last few months.”

“This is the worst fucking invasion, intervention, whatever, in the history of the planet.” The pounding in my head intensified, making me wish to heaven one of them had shot me. “I thought you Morellis were hardasses, not bleeding hearts offering water bottles and bringing casseroles. What the ever-loving fuck?”

“I have no heart. In fact, I feel nothing. Or did you forget?” Lucian’s deadpan response had Eva shoving his shoulder.

“Whatever. You are the most volatile of all of us. You only pretend to feel nothing.”

Interesting.

It looked as if Eva wasn’t in on the little secret about her brother. Emotionally, Lucian ran the gamut of feelings. However, when it came to the physical side of life, I could stab the asshole, and he wouldn’t know it.

“While the two of you continue your discussion, I’ll go clean up my terrace. It’s a mess.” I turned, ready to leave the siblings to their madness, and then grabbed hold of the island as a wave of nausea hit my stomach.

How the fuck had the jackasses in my family suffered like this and continued to drink all day, every day?

“I think you need to get some food into your system. It will help absorb any remaining alcohol in your stomach and lessen the hangover you are obviously suffering.” Eva stepped in front of me. “Let’s go in the living room and have a chat while Lucian heats the food.”

“When the hell did I become the kitchen staff? And what makes you think I know anything about reheating gnocchi?” Lucian’s surly reaction made listening to Eva’s instructions worth it.

“If you did it for Elaine during her pregnancies, you can do it now.”

Instead of waiting for his response, she took my arm and directed me into my living room.

These Morellis took over without giving two shits what anyone thought about a situation.

Sophia had infiltrated every part of my mind from the second our eyes connected from across the club, and I’d never been the same.

Once Eva and I sat on one of my long sofas, a series of curses reached us.
