“It’s a matter of respect, Pierce.”

Ignoring the outburst, Sophia skirted around Clark to face me. She pushed the hands of the security off my shoulders and arms and took my hand in hers.

Then she looked at Clark and said, “It was never my intent to show you any disrespect. However, I believe there is something about me you haven’t realized in all the times we’ve interacted.”

“What is that?” Clark watched me with suspicion.

“Since I entered this club, I have always been me. Always Sophia Morelli, always Lucian Morelli’s little sister, always the possible submissive looking to explore. I never pretended to be anyone but me at all times. And I always know you are the head Dom of this club and my brother’s friend.”

“Where are you going with this?”

“I flirt and joke with you while keeping that in the back of my mind at all times. There is no separating the two. I accept who you are. I respect you, but I won’t let you treat me like a child because you see me as a little sister.”

“Are you saying I treat you differently based on the situation?”

“You wouldn’t have asked that question if you didn’t already know the answer.” She focused on me, and the intensity of so many things unsaid between us pulsed as if they were living things. “If you’ll excuse me, Master Clark. It is time for me to escort Mr. Pierce into the club.”

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Sophia

Holding Damon’s mesmerizing emerald gaze, I offered him my hand.

Without a word, he slid his palm over mine, and I drew him toward me, ignoring Clark and his security team.

A shiver slid down my spine, and goose bumps prickled my skin as my nerves fired to life. This man’s mere presence affected me in ways I couldn’t explain to anyone.

I guided him through the front hallway and toward the lounge.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked, wondering who could have called him.

“Lucian. He called me.”

“Really?”

He was the last person I expected to contact him, considering his behavior toward Damon over the last few months. Would I ever understand their love-hate relationship?

Damon nodded. “Now, I’ll ask you the same question.”

“The bartender, Tate, saw you pull in during his break and came to inform me that you arrived.”

It was more that he’d rushed in since he’d heard the rumors about Damon’s revoked membership and decided I needed to head off a physical altercation.

In addition to making some of the best drinks I’d ever tasted, Tate kept his eyes and ears on the pulse of gossip in and out of the club. And since he liked me, he never wanted me blindsided by a situation.

“In other words, he wanted you to play interference between Ventana and me.”

“Something like that,” I smirked.

He paused, turning toward me and gripping my waist, his intense gaze making my heartbeat accelerate.

A crease formed between his brows, and his fingers flexed where he held me. “Did you come here to find another Dom?”

What would he say if I told him that I wouldn’t have come if it wasn’t for Lizzy?

From the moment I stepped through the doors earlier in the evening, memories of Damon haunted me everywhere I turned—of the things we’d done, of the intensity of the first time we met, our many scenes together, even how he’d broken my heart.

And because Lizzy knew nothing of my history in the club, I kept quiet, resisted the urge to run from this place, and put away the discomfort of being here without Damon.
