“I’ll make it up to you.”

This was a soul-deep promise. Sophia deserved so much better than what I’d given her.

She trusted me when no one else would have given me the time of day.

Her not using the safeword before and today was to show she believed in me so much that I’d never intentionally put her in harm’s way.

“It’s in the past. We move forward. Leave it there.”

“If that’s what you want. Let’s clean up.” I reluctantly pulled from her body, hearing a whimper from her lips as the tip of my cock cleared the puckered opening.

Moving to the sink, I soaked a warm cloth, brought it back, and cleaned Sophia. Then I freed her legs and arms and slowly lowered her from the cross. Leaning her against a nearby lounging bench, I cared for her back, applying a salve to her skin. All the while, I massaged her muscles to keep them from cramping.

Once finished, I wrapped a blanket around her, carried her to the couch in the corner of the room, and sat down with her on my lap.

This woman was mine. But first, I’d have to get her to accept it.

I wanted marriage, a future, a family.

And we needed to change her damn safeword.

She sighed, fluttering her eyes closed.

She was so fucking beautiful, absolute perfection, and a complete pain in my ass.

“I know what you’re thinking.” She murmured with her head tucked against my chest.

“What am I thinking?”

She lifted her head and smiled. “That I’m a pain in the ass since I don’t give you what you want when you want it.”

How the fuck had she known that?

“Technically, only a few minutes ago, I was the pain in your ass.”

“Very funny. I’m serious. You push me, I’ll push right back. It’s not me being a brat. It’s me forcing you to be honest about your feelings.”

I lifted her chin and met her sleepy gaze. “Believe me. I know this. I’ll be eighty years old, and you’ll still be riding my ass about something.”

“Are you assuming I will live with you when you’re eighty?”

“You’re marrying me, so there isn’t any other place you’ll live.”

“Are we back to that again?” She shifted, trying to sit up.

“It’s a given, Sophia. There’s no one else for either of us.”

“That may be true, but I’m not doing anything unless you ask me. I decide my future. I will stay in my apartment, and you can live in your ice palace.” The stubborn set of her jaw annoyed me at times.

“Are you still afraid of marriage?”

“No. I only want the option to say yes or no.”

“So you would say yes if I asked?”

“Propose and find out.”

I flipped her onto her back, pressing her into the couch cushions, and loomed over her.
