“Wow. I don’t think I have siblings. None that I’m aware of.” Jax stared off into the distance as if searching for imaginary brothers and sisters.

“Why wouldn’t you know?”

Jax shrugged. “My dad. Well, we haven’t been close, and he wasn’t married to my mom or anything. They were never actually together.”

“Oh. That’s not unusual anymore. In fact, couples that stay together a long time and don’t ever divorce seem to be what’s rare.”

“That seems to be true. Humans are weird.”

“Indeed.” I wanted to ask Jax exactly how human he was. The thing with the water was bizarre. How did he do that? Was it magic? Was it…hell, I wasn’t sure I believed it had happened. Jax seemed human enough to me, though.

His eyes were extremely blue and had an alluring and an exotic shape, but very much human. His skin was golden brown, darker than mine. If he was alien or something, wouldn’t it be a different color? Blue? or Green? Or in some way make him appear other than fully human?

“What?” Jax asked.

“What-what?”

“You’re staring at me.”

I winked. “How could I not? You’re gorgeous.”

The pink that tinted Jax’s cheeks was a very human thing. “Uh, thanks. I think.” He glanced down at the menu again.

“Do you know what you’d like?”

Slowly, Jax lifted his gaze and met mine. “You,” he said, voice sultry and practically purring.

My heart jumped for joy, practically choking me as it went up my throat. “After we eat—”

Drinks were set in front of us. “The shrimp will be right out. Can I get you anything else?”

“No, thank you. Not now.” I smiled, thinking of the sexy comment I almost said as the server walked up. We had plenty of time to flirt or whatever else this was later.

True to his word, the shrimp came as soon as the server left. We dug into the treat and sipped our drinks. And flirted.

When the basket was nearly empty, Jax wiped his fingers with a wet nap and cleared his throat. “Neil? You were asking about after we eat?”

“Want to go back to my place?”

“I was hoping that was the question.”

I drove Jax back to my small apartment, not far from the resort. I opened the little white fence surrounding the courtyard and led him to the front door. Once inside, Jax pressed his bigger, muscular body against mine.

I ran my hands over Jax’s shoulders. “This is nice.”

“This is nicer.” Jax pulled his shirt over his head, then reached for mine. When we were both bare-chested, Jax pulled me close again. His skin was hot against mine.

I rubbed my nose against Jax’s. “Agreed.” I pulled back a bit. Jax’s nose was perfect in the center of his broad face, eyes flashing a darker blue, and his plump lips…

Pressed against mine.

Jax jerked forward and took my mouth in an aggressive manner he hadn’t shown until that moment. Our tongues dueled for control, but I didn’t particularly care who won.

We stumbled through the small living room, nearly tripping on the edge of the area rug. Tangled together, we dropped on the couch. Jax pushed me against the back cushion and moved in close. I dry-humped against Jax’s leg, and the kisses didn’t stop with little pecks, swipes of tongue, and with touches.

Our lips danced together, and Jax’s hands moved over my skin. “I’ll make this good for you.” Jax’s voice was like a soft breeze across the sand.
