Dino bristles. “Caterina, did you just cuss at me?”
“I did and I’ll do it again. Why did you tell them where to find Luna?”
He shakes his head. “I didn’t tell them where to find Luna. The… someone was saying that they did a raid on that property because it was somewhere they suspected Elio of stashing the guns.”
“Who raided the property? Why did they think Elio would stash guns there?”
“Because no one could figure out why the fuck he would marry you, Caterina,” Dino spat.
I reel back, his words landing on me like a physical slap. “Excuse me?”
Behind me, I feel Elio growl. “Speak to her like that again and I’ll kill you, brother or no,” he rumbles.
I glance over my shoulder and realize that he’s absolutely serious. “No. I’ll kill him myself,” I snort.
I look back at Dino. I fold my arms and raise my eyebrows. “Dino. What the hell has gotten into you?”
He looks away and down. “You’re not the only one with secrets, Cat,” he murmurs.
Well.
Knock me over with a feather.
“Whatever your secrets are, there’s no excuse for what you did,” I whisper.
Dino’s eyes snap back up to mine. “What do you mean, what I did?”
“You betrayed us. You betrayedLuna,” I hiss at him. “Marco is missing. Elio’s people are being targeted. You hurt us, Dino. Why? How could you?”
My voice breaks on the last part of the phrase, and I look away, fighting the tears gathering in my eyes.
Dino makes a wheezing noise. “Caterina…”
“I don’t know why you told anyone about Luna. Honestly, I’m not sure that I can forgive you for that.”
“The damage was done; I didn’t tell them to attack her. They just… they have… I told them it was Luna, and what Luna’s relation to Elio is. It was an accident. A freak thing that became something entirely different,” Dino coughs as he finishes.
I can practically feel Elio vibrating with rage behind me. “You entered an alliance with me, De Luca. Why the fuck would you endanger that?”
This time when Dino speaks, his voice is low. “Because you killed our parents, you fucking traitor.”
Three things happen at once. Elio roars with anger, stepping forward like he’s going to slap the words from Dino’s mouth. I move in front of him, automatically protecting my brother.
And Gia walks into the room.
“The fuck?” she screeches. She joins me as I press back against Elio. “I was gone for like ten seconds!”
“I will kill you, De Luca,” Elio snarls.
“Elio!” I shriek. “That’s my brother!”
“And I will kill him regardless,” Elio spits at me.
Dino, behind me, laughs. “See, Caterina? No matter how many times he calls you amore, he’s still just a Rossi. He’s a fucking monster. He didn’t even want to marry you for anything except to kidnap you.”
I turn.
“What?”
