“Okay. That’s fine. Hey, have you put any more thought into the nursery yet?”

He shakes his head. “No, I think we can do some of that work in a little while, no?”

I smile. Here it goes. “Yeah, okay. But you’re going to have to tell Luna about her siblings, so she can start getting used to the idea.”

Elio nods. “Yes. I think we should let her pick the crib, maybe help with some of the room since she is so interested in architect?—”

He freezes.

I can’t help the pure joy that spreads across my face.

“Caterina.”

“Elio.”

“You said siblings.”

My smile grows wider. “I did.”

“As in two children.”

“Yes, well. Two or more.”

The look on his face when I say ‘or more’ is utterly priceless. I laugh and dry my hands off, then grab my phone. I pull up the sonogram picture, taken not twelve hours before the party, and hold it up to him. “Twins,” I say, in case he still doesn’t get it.

Elio presses gently on the phone, zooming in. “Those are twins?”

“So says the nice nurse who read the sonogram.”

“She is sure? Maybe we need a second opinion. I’ll call the doctor…”

I press a kiss on his cheek, silencing him. “Elio,” I murmur, pulling back. “We’re having twins.”

He gulps. “Two babies.”

“Two.”

“Not one.”

Laughing, I shake my head. “No. Not one.”

A smile breaks across his face. “We will have a big family, Caterina.”

This. This look on his face. This sheer joy.

This is what I want more of.

As he scoops me up into a kiss, I return it with all the love in my heart.

Elio and I are a family.

We are making the future we want.

And nothing, ever, is going to keep that from us.

Ever again.
