Gia throws her hands up. “No one thought to tell me, the intelligence officer and de-facto leader of this whole shebang?”

Elio and I exchange glances. “We thought it better if you could focus on the duties you’re taking on from Elio,” I say gently.

It’s partly the truth.

Sal came to us a few nights ago. He looked visibly shaken, and when I asked him what was wrong, he wouldn’t say.

But he did ask to be dispatched to Europe, where he could help smooth things over for Gia before she arrived to work with the Irish on a new deal around our imports and exports in the States.

I have a feeling that it has something to do with him and Gia, but while she’s glaring at me with fire in her eyes, I’m not going to say anything about it.

“He’s going to be okay, Gia,” I murmur.

Her eyes flash. “Sure he is. He’s going to be fucking fine. But what about me?”

With that, she spins, and marches back into the house.

I arch my eyebrows at Elio. “She’s your sister.”

“She’s yours too now.”

“She’s your second-in-command.”

He sighs. “Fine. I’ll talk to her later.”

Since the day with the Irishman, Elio and I decided to delegate more responsibilities to Gia, and to my brothers. We know we can trust Sal, and we’re hoping someday to trust Dino again.

What makes Elio happy is family.

He wants to focus on us.

And Luna and I can’t wait for him to be around more.

I sigh, and watch as Luna spills out into the yard.

A movement catches my eye. “Elio,” I whisper. “Zia Lucia is dancing on the table.”

He sighs. “You can take the stripper out of Naples…”

“Yeah, yeah,” I interrupt. I lean forward and smile at him. “Come on. Let’s go celebrate your daughter’s birthday.

His smile is so bright, it rivals the sun.

Hours later, the guests are finally gone. Gia eventually calmed.

And Elio and I are washing dishes in the kitchen.

“Hey,” Elio whispers, handing me a soapy plate.

“Hi,” I lean up to give him a kiss on the cheek.

We wash together for a second, content to get some of this out of the way.

Elio looks down at me. “I can finish, tesoro mio, if you need to rest.”

I take a breath.

I need to tell him about the twins.
