“Our relationship was not all about me, and I didn’t think it was.”

“I know you like to rehash this like we were on a Housewives reunion show with Andy Cohen, but I think for the sake of our sanity, we should leave this alone. Especially since we have this crap to deal with. Taking our eyes off the ball could end badly for everyone involved. Ask the guys who didn’t keep track of Golubev.”

He smiled. “Fine. But some day, we need to talk this out.”

“One thing I learned was that what you think we need and what I’m willing to give are completely at odds.”

He wanted to argue more about it, but he knew she had been right. They had important things to work on, and one thing neither of them did was bring their personal issues to the job. He knew they probably didn’t have a romantic future, but there was a tiny part of him that knew they needed to talk things over. Maybe then, there wouldn’t be this tension between them.

And maybe he would be able to stop having erotic dreams about her…just maybe.

Adam watchedTamilya and Marcus walk out of view and his smile faded. They didn’t have a policy of people dating at TFH, as long as no one was involved with a supervisor. Since Del was married, and Adam—well, he wanted someone who couldn’t commit—they were okay on that front. He still worried every time two of them started a relationship, that it would affect the team.

“I got twenty on this weekend,” Autumn said from behind him. He turned and found her texting furiously. “You want in?”

“I swear the boss said no more betting.”

“So…that’s a no?” she asked without looking up.

He sighed. “Leave me out of it so I can pretend I had no idea.”

She laughed. “Okay. Are we having a staff meeting today?”

“I’m not sure, let me talk to Del and I’ll let you know. It’s probably off because the body from last night is the assignment Marcus and Tamilya got.”

“Okay.”

She turned and walked back to her office without saying anything else. She was a good agent, but she was a little…different. That was the best way to describe her. Considering her childhood, he considered her fairly normal.

“Adam,” Del called out.

He turned and found his boss waving him into his office. Adam joined him.

“I guess Marcus filled you in?”

Adam nodded. “Sounds like a mess.”

“Yeah and the Feds want to drop it in our laps.”

“Then take the credit for it.”

“Nope. Tamilya made sure to get an agreement to share the collar if we figure it out. Hopefully, they won’t be dicks about it.”

Adam nodded.

“I picked up on something,” Del said carefully.

“What?” he asked.

“You don’t think they’re still involved, do you?”

“Marcus and Tamilya?” Adam asked.

Del nodded.

“I don’t think so, why?”
