“We get along.”
“Yeah, but there is always a sizzle between you. I get a contact high when I’m around you two.”
“What do you mean?”
She opened her mouth to answer, but there was another knock at his door.
“Come in,” Autumn said. The woman was really a piece of work.
The door opened and Tamilya popped her head in. Her gaze took in the scene. “Oh, I thought your voice sounded strange.”
Autumn apparently found that damned funny.
“Did you need to go over anything with the case?” he asked.
“Just wanted you to know that I got hold of another CI that Adam said was good. She’ll meet us this afternoon. I told her two would work.”
He nodded. “Sounds good.”
Then she simply stood there, and Autumn just sat in her chair. She didn’t move.
“Autumn, I need to talk to Marcus,” Tamilya said pointedly.
“Okay.”
“Autumn, remember when you told me you wanted to know when you were being an asshole?”
“Yep.” Then she looked at Tamilya and smiled. “I get it. Leaving.”
She scooted around Tamilya and out the door. Tamilya shut it behind her.
“What’s up?” Marcus asked.
“I thought you needed rescued.”
That comment made his lips twitch. “Rescued? From Autumn?”
She sighed and walked over to take the seat that Autumn had just occupied. “Yes. I am not an idiot. These people around here bet on everything. Hell, I heard them betting on what color shirt Del was going to wear the other day.”
“That had to do with if Emma and he had resolved their fight about who had to do the laundry.”
One eyebrow rose in question.
He smiled. “Emma said her IQ was too high to worry about things like that.”
She chuckled. “Sounds like her. Anyway, if you think Autumn was just in here to chat, she was not. She was gathering intel.”
“About us?”
She nodded.
He snorted. “I didn’t tell her anything…” He remembered the way she studied him. “Son of a bitch.”
She laughed. “Now you know why she was so damned good at undercover.”
“I think I need to have a chat with her.”
She shook her head. “She’ll just mess with your head even more.”
