“Are all DEA agents like that? I’ve only met a few, but I haven’t really worked with them.”

“No. The woman was raised by a man who was running a doomsday cult. As much as she hates him, it doesn’t mean that she didn’t learn her current behavior from him.”

He thought it over and apparently took too long. “What?”

“I wonder if Del knows she’s good at undercover?”

“I’m sure it’s in her file. Not that she wants to do that anymore. She said it was too easy to lose yourself there.”

“I’ve heard a lot of people say that about deep undercover.”

“Anyway, I was going to run by my house and pick up some clothes and things.”

For a second, he couldn’t believe she had agreed to stay with him. Then, it hit him. She didn’t say where she was going to sleep.

“Are you planning on staying with me?”

She nodded. “Unless you changed your mind.”

No fucking way. “Nope.”

“I figured I would be back here in time to head out for our meetup with the CI.”

“Where is that?”

“Near Haleiwa.”

“Why don’t we go to lunch later on the way? That way you can either pick the clothes up on the way or when we head back.”

For a second, she said nothing. He didn’t know why she was hesitating. It wasn’t like he didn’t know where she lived. He’d looked it up, of course. Not in a stalker kind of manner. It wasn’t like he drove by her house that often.

Damn.

“Marcus?”

He cleared his throat. “Yeah, so I think that would work better. We’re going to be fighting traffic one way and it will save you some time.”

She studied him for a long second, then she nodded. “Okay. Food first, then we’ll stop by my house.”

He felt like he had won a prize.

“I have a conference call with Addie and the head of this fubar of an operation that was used to bring in Golubev in a few minutes. Do you want to listen in?”

He wanted to say yes, but not for work reasons. If he went into her office, he could spend more time with her.

Jesus, he sounded pathetic even in his own head.

“Naw. I’m going to do a little more research on this Li guy and see if any other agencies have him on their radar, then I’ll probably help Charity with the footage search.”

She nodded. “I figure we can head out about eleven or so?”

“Sounds like a plan.”

She slipped out the door and shut it behind her. He had a moment to sit back and gather his thoughts. It was worse than when they had dated last time. It wasn’t an infatuation or just a way to blow off steam. This was full on feelings, and he knew in the end, both of them could end up hurt. But for the life of him, he couldn’t give up the thought of being with her. And not just in the bedroom. He wanted more, and he had definitely finagled his way to go to her house to hopefully meet her parents.

He groaned and scrubbed a hand over his face. Never in his life had he wanted to meet the parents of one of his lovers. Just that alone should scare him, but at this point, Marcus was pretty sure it was too late.
