“Ala Moana park and then near the King Kamehameha statue.”

They were all really close to them, but she knew it had more to do with tourists. If the suspect could scare tourists and locals away from those spots, it would be detrimental to the economy. Ala Moana Center and Ward Center were hubs. Ward was a little ways away, but close enough that people would avoid it.

“No explosions?”

She shook her head. “I talked to one of the HPD techs. He said they think this had to do with the other bombing.”

“Of course it did.” Then she remembered the slip of paper they found in the hotel room.

“Ala Moana was on a list,” she said mostly to herself. Her mind was jumping from one idea to the next but that one seemed to make the most sense. Ala Moana would be on a hit list and, if they were listing them in alphabetical order, that would be at the top of the list.

“No explosions. They’re going with a theory that he was supposed to set up bombs all over Honolulu.”

Jesus. That would make sense. The fear would send everyone into hiding. It would basically shut down Honolulu and Waikiki. Locals might just say screw it because, well, Hawaiians marched to their own tune. But tourists, now they would cower. The ones who were planning a trip would cancel it. Financially, this could devastate the islands. She’d heard stories about the weeks and months following 9-11. The beaches were bare except for locals and the military.

“Was the bomber ever identified?” she asked.

“Oh, didn’t you hear?”

Tamilya shook her head.

“It was WangXiu.”

She knew the name but, as usual, Charity filled in the blanks. “He worked for Li. Basically his favorite right hand man.”

“Argh, seriously, is it the Chinese or is it the Russians? This is making my head hurt.”

“I know, but agents are going over some things in the room he was staying in. HPD asked if I wanted to come over since the FBI said it was okay, so I am. I still have no idea why they didn’t send the evidence here.”

“Because of me.”

“You?”

Tamilya nodded. “I’m a target right now and since we are starting to find the links to Virginia Star, they definitely don’t want me near it.”

“Ah. Okay. That’s kind of stupid because I would guess you’re an encyclopedia when it comes to that job.”

Tamilya snorted.

“Well, I’ll let you know if I find anything,” Charity said, turning to leave and running into Addie.

“Oh, sorry, Agent March.”

Addie gave her an understanding smile. “No worries, and call me Addie.”

Charity returned the smile then hurried off.

“It’s the right call,” Addie said as she sat in the chair in front of Tamilya’s desk.

“Shut up.”

There was no heat in her words, but she didn’t want to hear anyone tell her that she was wrong. She knew deep down in her gut that she should be at TFH. Charity was right, like she usually was. Tamilya and Addie would be considered the two people in the country who knew more about the Virginia Star bombing than anyone else. The two of them together would be able to remember facts that might not have made it into the final report. Anything, no matter how obscure, might be able to help them catch the bomber. Both she and Addie working together might be the best idea so far—even if she were still irritated at being left behind.

“Listen, let’s look at the texts and see if we can find anything that matches them,” Addie said. “I did get some analysis we can go over pointing to a male doing the texting.”

“How so?”

“You know they have programs that can detect the sex of anyone based on their word patterns. I can go over them with you right now.”
