But he knows how to be that flirt. And he knows how to do it well. Every time his chocolate eyes look my way, it’s like a physical touch I can feel. My body heats and my heart flutters. His intense focus makes me feel like I’m the only one he sees. But that’s his way. He’s a lover.

I’m not special and I shouldn’t get used to it.

I’ve always wanted to understand that feeling of needing someoneright now. Of needing to be touched, admired, of being so incredibly turned on that you may just die if you don’t have their kiss with your next breath. It’s everything I write about, and sure I can get the image from the movies I watch, or other books I read, but in real life? I didn’t think it was possible.

With Billy? It’s become reality.

Billy does it for me.

And that’s how I know it wasn’t right with Steve. There was no urgency on my part, nor on his. It just sort of happened because we were around each other a lot., and now that he’s gone, I feel a sense of relief.

Every girl that walks in the room knows Billy. And most know him biblically. I’m irrationally jealous because there’s nothing between us. Hell, we’re going to end up family once Adam and Chelsea get married.

The wild stories my sister has told me about him run through my mind, but not all wild is bad. I’m not one to keep quiet, either. We need to grab hold of this world while we’re here, and Billy does that, proving it’s more than just a physical attraction. There’s something deeper to him, something he hides away, and for some reason, he doesn’t want people to know more than what he shows, so he covers it with the clown act and playboy attitude.

And alcohol.

But underneath all that is a complexity to him and I wonder how others can’t see it, since it’s so clear to me.

He’s simply amazing.

“Want to take a walk? It’s a beautiful night.” His breath brushes across my skin and sends shivers down my spine, and I don’t have to think twice about my answer.

“Let’s go.”

Leaving the party, we wander around the town of Christmas, the small talk and light touches making my heart skip. We end up at the football field entrance, the gate slightly ajar, which is very fitting for this town where everything revolves around football.

“I played it years ago, but I wasn't any good.” He laughs as we walk to the fifty yard line. The moon is full and illuminates the field as if the Friday night lights are on.

“Oh? Your brother got all the talent?” I ask teasingly.

“I got the talent that matters.” He waggles his brows and bumps me with his shoulder, then sighs. “Adam’s only talent is being a conceited jerk.”

Chuckling at his outburst, I reply, “Didn’t Adam play with Jackson?”

He turns in a circle, arms loose at his side “Yeah, he did. It got him to college, and out of this town at least.”

His words give me pause. “And then it brought him right back here.”

“It did.” He bends down, running his hand across the turf before lying flat on the ground and patting the spot next to him.

I sprawl next to him on the cool ground, breathing in the warm air that’s filled with the scent of his cologne and tequila. Billy holds his hands up, cupping them in a square, outlining the moon.

“Do you think my twin is looking at the same moon and stars right now?”

My heart breaks for Billy. I know Chelsea has mentioned a few times that he’s had a hard time since Tom joined the military. And if tonight is any look into what he’s been spending his time on, it’s clear he’s been drowning those sorrows instead of looking for another way to cope. I need to be very careful about where we go with this conversation.

“I’m sure there isn’t a day that goes by where he doesn’t think about you.”

“Then why did he leave me?”

My heart skips a beat, and his hands drop to the ground beside him. When I look over, I’m met with those beautiful eyes that followed me all night. My stare lingers on his face, his lashes, down his nose and stops on those full lips, when I feel his hand grip my thigh.

“Billy.” His name leaves my lips in a whisper.

“Ad, I don’t want to miss him anymore. It hurts too much.”

“He’s coming home, Bil-”
