And I feel good about it.

It’s been eighty-three days since I’ve had a drink, and I’ve never felt better. I won’t say it’s been easy, but it’s been manageable. Having a good wife, and amazing family and friends that I’ve finally allowed to help me push through when I need help, has been everything.

“Yo! You want to take the first swing, Bill?”

Stepping up to my brother, I take the sledgehammer and walk to the wall we’re about to knock down. “You’re sure this isn’t load bearing, right? I’m not going to get crushed on the first day?”

“Does it look like my first day? Just swing, bro.” Rolling my eyes at Adam’s insistence, I take a breath and let it out slowly.

“Here goes nothing, Al.” I whisper to myself, then wind up and create the first hole. Adam, Dad and Tom cheer, the crew clap and we’re off!

Come lunchtime on day three,we’ve made great progress and after one more day of clean up, we’ll be ready to re-open.

We’re just sitting to take a break when the girls come strolling in. Both Adley and Chelsea had appointments today to check on the babies. Chelsea is hoping for an induction date and Adley was hoping to find out the sex of the baby. My mom went with them both, and Farrah stayed with the babies and Dom.

“There’s my queen!” Adley marches right over to me, wrapping herself around me and kissing me hello. “How’s my wife and baby today?”

“Mm, better now, husband.”

“Oh, god, get a room,” Chelsea scolds as she waddles over to Adam.

“That’s what got us here, sis.”

Snickering at Adley, I inquire about the babies. “How are you feeling, Chelsea?”

“Like a fucking blimp.”

“Oookaayyy.” I raise my brows at Adam, and he just shakes his head. “Dare I ask?”

“They won’t induce her yet. They want her to hang out as long as possible and-”

“I’m fucking hanging out everywhere!” Chelsea yells, then starts crying. “I’m so done with this!”

I actually feel bad for her. She looks like she’s in pain and I know she hasn’t been sleeping. “Please tell me your appointment went better than hers.” I whisper to Adley.

She smiles. “It did.”

“Yeah? Did the baby cooperate? Do we know what we’re having?”

She slides her arms over my shoulders and, in a sing-song voice, replies, “We do.”

“She doesn’t know, Billy, so whatever you’re trying to get out of her, just forget it!” We all turn at mom’s voice and see her carrying a cake. “We need to do a little gender reveal! I had two cakes made and once I knew, I picked up the one meant for you two!”

She places it on the bar, gives my dad a kiss, then makes her way to me. “My baby is having a baby!” She cries out. “I told you they always come in pairs. We were just waiting for you to catch up.”

Everyone gathers around the bartop, and my dad asks. “What are you hoping for, Bill?”

“I hope it’s a girl, so she doesn’t carry my ways. Or my name.”

“What do you mean? She’ll be a Casanova.”

“But not a junior.”

“Bill. Stop.” Adley leans into me, and I cover her belly with my hands.

“You know whoisa Casanova for life now?” Leaning down, I kiss her neck and she giggles.
