He smiles. “I have a lot of thoughts on this,” he says. “But I don’t think you’re ready to hear what I have to say. You asked me to be your friend, and I’ll be that, regardless of how much I want to be more.”

“Thank you,” I say, relief flooding through me.

“Of course. Can I say one more thing though?”

“Yes,” I whisper.

He leans in closer and my breath hitches in my chest.

“Some people will never experience what we shared last night,” he says. His eyes skate over my face like he’s memorizing me. “I certainly haven’t ever experienced anything close to that before.” The rasp in his voice makes me press my legs together. “I have no doubt we would work, Marlow. And I personally think it would be worth all the risk.”

He smiles at me again and sits back in his seat. Huge platters of sushi are brought out and he turns his attention to the food, while I sit there, desire for him thrumming through me.

The next hour and a half, conversation flows freely between all of us as we eat and laugh and celebrate Theo and Sofie.

From there, we say bye to Holly, April, Sutton, and Callum as they head back to Landmark Mountain. The rest of us walk to watch the fountains in front of the Bellagio, Sofie and Theo, and Scarlett and Jamison wrapped around each other, while Wyatt and I keep two feet of space between us.

It’s agonizing.

All I can think about is what if maybe, just maybe, Wyatt could be right about us?

But I don’t make a move and neither does he.

We play a few slots and hit the roulette table, where I win five hundred dollars. I’m so excited, I turn and give Wyatt a huge hug, and his sexy grin is wide when I pull away.

“See? Worth the risk,” he says.

I roll my eyes and he just takes my hand and kisses the palm, his eyes dancing.

A few hours later, Scarlett and Jamison leave the group first, and Sofie leans into me as the rest of us walk toward the elevators. “I’ve never seen you look so happy, Low.” She puts her head on my shoulder.

“I am happy,” I tell her.

“Does Wyatt have anything to do with this?” she whispers, smiling when she pulls back.

I flush and her eyes gleam with excitement. I quickly shake my head. “Don’t get too excited yet. I just—” I shake my head again and laugh, making a face.

She puts her forehead on mine. “I won’t get ahead of myself, even though the thought of you two getting together makes meecstatic,” she whispers. “But don’t be afraid to just have a little fun. Okay?” She pulls back and looks me in the eye. “Take something for yourself for once. Don’t overthink it.”

“I have Dakota to think about,” I remind her.

She levels me with a look. “You think I’m not thinking about my favorite little human too?” She leans in and whispers, “Get some of this tension out of you and you’ll go back to her a much happier mama.” She giggles and laughs at my expression when she backs away.

“We worked some of that tension out last night,” I say through my teeth and she jerks back, mouth open.

She presses her hand to her mouth and when it drops, she’s radiant. “I cannot believe you managed to keep that from me all day long. You are so busted.” She giggles. “But what are you doing still standing here?” She looks over my shoulder at Wyatt, most likely. “Go get you some more.”

“It’s not that simple,” I argue.

“I think it can be,” she says simply.

She can’t wipe the huge smile off her face as she turns and walks over to Theo, looping her arm through his.

They start walking to the elevator and she looks at me over her shoulder and motions for me to go get Wyatt.

I shoo her off and look around to see Wyatt turning toward me.

“Can I walk you to your room?” he asks.
