“I wouldn’t know,” Lar says pointedly before he places the pastry in a box. He grins up at me and jumps when Mar swats him with a towel. “What? You’ve never calledmequiet. Is that why you’re so chatty? Because I’m knocking you off your feet?”

He yelps when she reaches out and twists his nipple, but he just laughs and tugs her in for a kiss. She pretends to protest, but it’s obvious she loves every second of it.

“Now Iamkind of ticked you didn’t bring me here sooner,” Ruby teases, bumping her shoulder against me.

I wrap my arms around her, pulling her back against my chest. When I kiss her temple, it surprises me that I’ve done it, but it feels so right, I lean into it and so does she.

“You okay with this?” I whisper in her ear.

I feel her cheeks lift with her smile.

“You should just know by now that when it comes to you, Callum, I am better than okay.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

WE’LL GET THERE

RUBY

We drive down Heritage Lane, which is the cutest main street I’ve ever seen. I already thought so, but it’s like the quaintness smacks me upside the heart every time I venture out. Everywhere I look is decked out with Christmas decorations and the occasional shop holding out with a combo of fall decor for Thanksgiving. Callum points out a few places he thinks I’d like.

I sip my coffee and moan intothe cup.

Callum looks over at me and grins. “Good?”

“It’sdelicious.”

His eyes are heated as they drop to my mouth. He reaches out and wipes some of the foam from my lips and licks it off his thumb.

“Not as good as you,” he says.

His low, husky voice, paired with those twinkling, smiling eyes, sends a throb between my legs.

“Why don’t you pull out one of those pastries? See what you think,” he says.

“Which one is your favorite?” I ask.

“All of them.”

I laugh and pull out the apple turnover he ordered and hold it up for him to take a bite.

“Ladies first.” He grins and shakes his head when I try to make him go ahead.

I take a bite and gasp. “Oh, wow. That is exceptional.”

He looks so pleased and nods. When I offer him a bite next, he takes one and then says, “Go ahead, you finish it.”

“There’s so much in here, I want to try everything. Is this your favorite?”

“I love all the apple stuff, yeah. But the chocolate croissants are a close second.” He chuckles when I give him another bite of the turnover. “There’s the lodge,” he says, pointing to the grand resort highlighted by the mountains surrounding it.

“It’s stunning.”

The ski lifts are filled with people, and traffic is backed up. The parking lot to the lodge is full.

Callum glances at his watch.

“It’s a busy time to be over here. I usually hit Happy Cow early if I want to avoid this.”
