“Are you trying to distract me?” he asks.

“Is it working?”

“It’s always working.” He takes a step back and kisses my fingers. “Do you need to get anything from the house?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, go ahead, and I’ll check on everything out here.”

“We’re doing this?”

“You still want to?” His head tilts and even in the lamplight, I can make out his smiling eyes.

“Absolutely,” I say.

“Then, hell, yes, we’re doing this.”

He smacks my backside and I yelp, laughing as I walk into the house to get my cosmetic bag and a few other things.

Within half an hour, we’re on our way. I’m the DJ, alternating between his playlist and mine, and the time flies by. It’s eleven thirty when we pull in front of a winter wonderland villa, all lit up.

“What do you think?” he asks.

“Callum! This is where we’re staying?”

“Think you can handle a night or two of this?”

“Uh, yes!” I squeal.

He grins, that excitement from earlier just under the surface.

We grab our things and walk up to the front door. Callum enters a code and then we’re inside. It’s truly breathtaking—cathedral ceilings in the entryway with stairs winding up, intricate woodwork, and plush, comfortable couches.

“Wow.”

“Will this work?”

I cover my mouth, giddy as I keep looking around. “Thank you for this, Callum. It’s absolutely stunning.”

“The pantry should be loaded and the fridge is stocked with meals. But if we feel like going out, there are a couple of restaurants nearby that Blake and Camilla love.”

“I need to meet them soon.”

“Yes, you do.” He tugs me against him and kisses me but pulls away just as I melt into him. “Wanna see the rest of the place?” he asks.

I nod, and he laughs at how emphatic I am.

There’s a hot tub on the deck and a bar area with an elaborate trellis, lights twinkling around the beams. It’s beautiful at night, but I can’t wait to see what it looks like during the day. Each room is exquisite, but when I see the main bedroom, I’m blown away. The bed is massive and covered with the softest, plushest linens and throw pillows. The ceilings peak in the center and the sky shows through the skylights. A wall of windows faces what I know must be a gorgeous view, and the bathroom is the grandest I’ve ever seen.

“I love it,” I keep saying, with each new area we see.

“I loveyou,” he says, his deep voice gruff yet tender.

I turn to look at him, and the raw emotion on his face makes me tremble.

“I love you too,” I whisper. “I can’t believe how much.”

He reaches out and takes my hand. “I’d understand if you’re not ready to be saying this yet. I realize it’s crazy and you just got out of—”
