I put my hand on his arm.

“I am so in love with you,” I whisper.

His breath hitches and he grips my hand tighter in his.

“I never knew how it felt to be loved like this, Callum.”

He’s staring at me so intently when bells start ringing behind me. His mouth parts and he gets an expression that I haven’t seen yet.

I turn to see what has his attention and whisper, “Oh.”

We’re standing in front of an adorable white chapel covered in twinkle lights. Wedding Chapel is painted on the sign above the door, and the little chalk sign outside says,Walk right in and get married today!in scrolly letters. The bells ring for a few more seconds and then it’s quiet.

We stare at it for a moment and then turn to look at each other.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” he asks.

A bead of sweat is on his forehead and his hand trembles slightly as he pulls it out of my hand and lifts it to my cheek.

I nod.

“I want to marry you,” he says. So soft it’s barely audible, but my whole body resonates with the words.

“I want to marry you too,” I tell him.

And I really, really do.

I think I’d have no doubts regardless of my circumstances, but because of what I’ve been through and know how that felt, there is no question in my mind that I want to marry Callum. It’s crystal clear.

“You do?” He sets down the bag of books and pulls me against him. “I don’t care when we do it. And I’d be happy ifyou just say you’re mine if marriage is not on the table,” he says. “But I’d also do it today and not regret it for a second.”

“Let’s do it today,” I say, shocking both of us when I start laughing. “Doesn’t it feel like a sign?”

He starts laughing, reallylaughing, and I feel like I could float away on a cloud.

“You’re sure?” he asks.

“I can’t even express how sure,” I tell him.

He laughs again. “I can’t believe this.”

He kisses me, his hands winding through my hair. It’s both grounding and freeing at once, giving him full access to my heart.

Someone whistles at us and we break apart, still holding on tight to each other.

“We’ll need a marriage license,” he says.

Two hours later, I’m in my white sweater dress and the boots I almost didn’t bring. I’m so glad I did—I think Callum almost passes out when he sees me walking down the stairs in them. It’s not exactly a wedding dress, but he’s already seen me in that. This feels much better.

He brought a suit in case we decided to go to a fancy restaurant, and he’s standing at the bottom of the stairs in it. Callum in a suit isintoxicating.

It takes me a minute to notice he’s holding a ring box open.

“You did this while you were out?” He wasn’t gone for more than an hour.

“You look stunning, Ruby.” His voice is reverent.

“Youtake my breath away,” I say.
