She pries her arm away. “No, thank you,” she says coolly.

She walks away and I look up to see Wyatt and Marlow’s gaze ping-ponging from where she’s ended up and back to me.

Fuck.

“Purple night?” Wyatt asks.

I wave him off. “It’s a schedule thing.”

“Ah, I’d forgotten how you color-code everything.” He leans in. “Why does she look so pissed?” he asks quietly.

I slide my hand down my face and shake my head.

“Gwyneth, huh?” Wyatt lifts his brows.

He tilts his head toward where Felicity is standing at a high-top table, talking to a jock type that looks like he wants to inhale her.

“Are youtryingto blow this?” Wyatt says under his breath.

“Thisisnothing.Thisis thenannywho’s working for me to take care of my son,” I say between clenched teeth, low enough so Owen can’t hear me.

“Well, this,” Wyatt says, waving his hand in my direction, “is a whole lot of angst going on fornothing, andthatis thenannywho looks like she’s either taking the tourist up on his offer or she’s trying to make you jealous. I personally think it’s the latter. What do you think?” he asks Marlow.

She nods. “Definitely the latter,” she says and then shoots me a guilty look.

I swipe my hand down my face. “She saw Gwyneth kissing me earlier and left without eating the dinner she prepared. She’s been doing that lately…at first she ate with us, but I guess I thought tonight…she might stay.”

“Go back to theGwyneth kissing youpart,” Marlow says.

“Dad says Gwyneth was just saying hello,” Owen says, hopefully only picking up on the last part of the conversation.

I’m sorry, Marlow mouths.

I wave her off like it’s not a big deal, even though I don’t want to revisit this discussion with my son. The whole way over here, he grilled me about Gwyneth and why it looked like she was one of those fish in the aquarium that sucks the glass.

“And Dad said they went on a date once and Gwyneth might have thought they were picking up where they left off, but he didn’t think they were picking up where they left off because they haven’t talked since then and he doesn’t feel like picking up where they left off, so he stopped the kiss,” Owen says, running out of breath as he tries to get it all out.

He gasps in a deep inhale, and I question my decision of giving him that much honesty when I answered his questions.

I try to be subtle as I watch Felicity throw her head back and laugh, cursing every word imaginable in my head. Why is this making me so angry? I’ve warned her that the tourists aren’t the safest option—hell, they might be decent, but we don’t know them, do we? I’m tempted to run a background check on the kid.

Owen and Dakota start playing a game on his iPad, and I hope it keeps them busy so they don’t hear any of this. I turn back to Wyatt.

“Did you catch his last name?” I ask.

Wyatt snorts. “No, and listen, you’re not gonna go all judicial system mode here.” He leans forward and says so softly that I can barely hear him in this loud restaurant, “I haven’t seen you interested in anyone in such a long time, Sutton. Maybe not ever quite like this—you’re theplay it cool, never let them see you sweatguy, and just so you know, I’m seeing you sweat. Go over there, tell her you’re not interested in kissing Gwyneth, and take her home and make it right.”

I make a face. “Do you hear yourself? Just because you and the rest of the family have found love in the span of—practicallyminutes—doesn’t mean I’m feeling anything for thisgirlI hardly know.”

“He’s making fun of all of us for falling fast, did you hear that?” Wyatt says to Marlow.

“Yep, I caught that.” She nods.

They both try to not grin, and I’m so annoyed, I reach out and take a long swig of Wyatt’s drink, nearly choking when the cough syrup sweetness coats my mouth.

“The fuck is that?” I sputter.

The kids’ eyes turn on me and I dig money out of my pocket, cursing again since I already have my wallet out.
