“You don’t know the half of it,” Sutton says.

“You’ve gotta have her cake, Grinny.” Owen pulls Grinny over to see what’s left of the cake.

“That does look good,” she admits.

“Oh, and if you hear Felicity say Ace, that’s me,” Owen says proudly. “She calls me that sometimes.”

“Ace, I like it,” Grinny says, nodding. She looks at me and winks.

“Come on, have some cake, Grinny. It’s so good,” Owen says.

“Thanks, guys.” I wave off the flattery, but inside I’m thrilled that they seem to like whatever I make. I was worried they’d be picky eaters. “Stay and eat, Grinny. There’s more than enough.”

“I think Dakota’s got her heart set on Sunny Side. We should get over there to pick her up. You were closer, so I stopped here first.” Grinny smiles down at Owen and then looks at me again, her smile widening. “Let me know the next time you make chili though.”

“You’ve got it.” I laugh.

After the goodbyes and watching them get in the car and drive away, Sutton turns to face me.

“Hi,” he says softly.

“Hi.”

I feel shy around him all of a sudden. Alone with him in the light of day…after thinking about our night together every second…

“You’ve distracted me nonstop today,” he says.

He rubs his thumb over my bottom lip and my nipples pebble with the way he’s looking at me.

“I might’ve thought about you once or twice.” I lift my shoulder nonchalantly.

He growls and I laugh, and his lips are on mine in the next second, claiming me, owning me. He turns so I’m against the door as he presses his body against mine and I’m a goner. Ourlips and tongues and teeth are wild and urgent, and when he thrusts against me and I moan, he suddenly pulls back, chest rising and falling.

“You made dinner and I come in here and try to ravish you.” He laughs, running his hands through his hair.

“I love your hair messy,” I say, lifting off of the door and putting my hands in his waves.

His eyes gleam and eventually drag from my lips to my eyes.

“Yeah?” he says, his voice raspy.

“And I’ve been thinking about you ravishing me all day. Why did you stop?”

His lips quirk up. “You’re not starving?”

I nod. “For you...the food can wait.”

He groans and grips my hips. “We do have the place to ourselves.”

“What if we go to my apartment?” I ask. “Just in case they come back before we expect them to.”

He nods. “I like it.”

I move past him and turn off the stove, cover the cornbread, and am by the door before a minute has passed. His low, rumbly chuckle washes over me like a crashing wave and I shiver. He takes my hand and we go outside and up to my apartment. When he shuts the door behind him, he stalks toward me, looking even bigger in this smaller space. I sigh, loving how he towers over me.

“What are you thinking?” He runs his hand over my cheek.

“What a beautiful specimen you are.”
