I spot a few of the professors that I know well and make my way over, but not before stealing one more glance at Melody.

She’s so enticing and so incredible.

And I hope like hell she’ll be waiting for me in my passenger seat.

Melody

“Uh, yeah, it’s totally fine for you to go. I was just going to talk to you about my plans for the rest of the evening.” Fran gives me an excited grin, and I already know she’s intending to leave with Will.

He clears his throat. “But only if it was okay with you.” His green eyes are pretty, and his clean-shaven face gives him a boyish charm. Will is handsome, for sure, but after being with Aiden, I’d never go for someone as young.

“It’s perfectly fine with me.” I wiggle my eyebrows at Fran. She giggles at me, and I give them both a smile. “Sorry for cutting out early.”

“Girl, I’m hoping that we can do the same.” Fran smirks, eyeing Will. His cheeks blush, and I can’t help but laugh at the dynamic between the two of them. It’s cute. It’sreallycute.

“Well then, I suppose I’ll leave you be.” I giggle, eyeing the front entrance. Aiden is still in the corner of the room, speaking with a few of the professors, but it’d probably be less suspiciousif wedidn’tleave at the same time. I swallow hard, bid my friend and Will goodnight, and then I slip toward the exit.

The cold air blasts my face as I slip out into the night, and again, my coat isn’t warm enough. I glance around the parking lot, searching for Aiden’s car.

It takes a few moments, but I finally locate it, parked a few rows back. I have no idea if it’s unlocked or not, but I hurry toward it, hoping like hell it is.

As I approach it, the lights flash twice, the sound of the unlock mechanism clicking. I whip my head around to see Aiden standing near the doors. He’s speaking with someone but must’ve seen me slip out.

A burst of excitement thrums through my body, and I slide into the passenger seat.

And then the car starts.

Thank God for remote start.

Safely sitting behind the darkly tinted windows, I wait for Aiden, watching him through the glass entrance doors. As I finally let myself really look at him and whom he is with, I realize he’s speaking with Dr. Lewis.

What would happen if he found out?

I try to imagine such a scenario. I know the policies for the school just require professors and students not to share classes, but even then, most of the time it ruins everyone’s reputation.

Which is ridiculous.

I’m a grown adult. And so is Aiden.

It’s not like he preyed on me or something. If anything,Iinitiated this aspect of our relationship, and it wasn’t to get a better grade, either. He’s just...

He’s the first person who’s really seen me in so long. He makes me feel like something outside of just my devotion to taking care of Dorian. I’m more than just a maternal, older sister figure. I’mMelody.

A few minutes later, Aiden slips through the doors, trotting across the parking lot.

I admire him as the heat of the AC blows warm on my face.

He glances around before slipping into the driver’s seat. His hair is slightly tussled from the wind, but he’sglowing.

“Sorry it took me longer.” He chuckles, leaning over and pulling my mouth to his. He kisses me deeply and then pulls away. “Sorry, I’ve been dying to do that since you set foot in there, but it’s probably best to save that for the house. I thought I was never going to get out of there.”

“It was a nice event, though,” I say as he pulls out of the parking lot. He’s in a hurry, and I clench my thighs in response.

“You look so fucking beautiful tonight, Mel.” He reaches over and runs his hand up and down my thigh.

“You don’t think it’s too much?” I gesture to the makeup on my face.
