“All you are doing is standing watch once the old man is secured. The girl will come in and talk to him. You are only to go in if she calls for your help. I don’t know yet if she will want me there. It is a personal matter between her and the old man. I will be waiting in the car, though, nearby.”

Diego nods again. “I understand. If I may share my opinion?”

“Go ahead.”

“I don’t think you should do this at all. The guy is a nobody. Honestly, I would prefer to not be involved in your plan, but you are the new boss, and I respect that.”

“Thank you for your opinion. I appreciate you being honest with me, but this is happening.”

He nods. “Understood, boss.”

I eye Arton across the table. He nods as well. “Diego is a good man. I brought him along because we can trust him. He will do what we ask.”

I sigh. I am fine with the guy sharing his opinion, but he better fucking do as he is told.

“Where can this happen? You said you have a location?”

“Yes, on the docks. We have a few containers there. I can have Diego bring the guy to one container, restrain him inside there, and your girl can have her talk with him. It is out of the way, in a quiet area, it won’t raise any alarms. It is on our territory, sorry - your territory - and no one will bother you.”

“Good. Set it up, plan it, tell me when it is happening.”

“Also, your father had a personal driver and several cars. You can make use of him, obviously. I can give you his details. He will be happy to drive you around.”

“I am fine for now. When I move into my father’s property, I will make use of my driver. Right now, I am keeping it more low-key. Call me later; let me know.”

“Will do.” Arton stands up, Diego following his lead. “I’ll get in touch later this evening and confirm everything.”

“Thanks, Arton. It was good to see you.”

I watch them walk away from the coffee shop. There is something about Diego that I don’t like, but if Arton trusts him, I will take the risk of trusting him as well.

I check my phone.

I haven’t heard from Rei in a while, but I know I don’t need to follow up with her. She will contact me if she finds out anything at all. She has been tailing Lucas for the last few days, hoping he will lead her to wherever Kalo is being held. I have not had another call from his captors. My two days are already up, but nothing has come of it yet. I know time is getting tight for Kalo, and I need to find him soon.

Once I sort out this thing with Seraphina's father, I am going to confront Lucas, even if it means that he and I have to have a face-to-face talk in a private location.

He looks like a man who will bend under pressure and pain.

I have asked Rei to make a note of what his security team looks like so that we can plan around it.

I wave the waitress over so that I can get the check. I want to get back to the hotel and let Seraphina know what I am planning forher. I guess I should wait until I have a time and day before I tell her. But that will still be today sometime, when Arton gets back to me.

The waitress eyes me up and down and grins as she slides the receipt over to me. I narrow my eyes at her; I know that look.

She winks and walks away. On the receipt is her phone number. I stand up, crumple it, and drop it on the table.

The waitress looks at me with her lip curled upwards, and her nose crinkled. She puts her hand on her hip and glares at me with heated eyes. She is not happy about this gesture at all.

Sorry honey, I only have eyes for one girl.

I walk out of the restaurant and climb into my car. Sure, a personal driver is a luxury I am used to, but until I know what is around here, I don’t want anyone to know what hotel I am staying at, including a driver. So, for now, I am driving myself.

I head back to the hotel and park underground. Catching the elevator to the top floor, I feel excited to tell Seraphina what I have arranged for her.

She has been so lost in thought over this for a few days now, and she never came forward to tell me how I could help her, so I took matters into my own hands.

I don’t know if it is some kind of guilt for still waiting to have the answers she needs, even though she should be happy now - with me - or what is holding her back, but the bottom line is that if she needs those answers, she will get them. Her needing that has nothing to do with our relationship. She can be happy with us and still want closure with her father.
