I rub my jaw, my face still stinging from the blow. I make no move to retaliate, my gaze locked with Eras and a silent demand for some sort of explanation in my eyes.

“Is that all you came to do?” I retort.

He grabs my shirt in a fist and flails me around like a branch. “Do you really have no fucking idea why I’m here?” he barks as he shoves me towards the wall.

“If you could kindly explain, I might know.”

He backhands me with the same force as the punch.

“You have some nerve to lock yourself in. Your cockiness has always been nothing but a farce of yours.”

I stand back straight, holding my face. “Yes, well, thank you for the compliment. I still don’t know why you’re here. If you want to fight, let's go outside.”

He rolls his eyes and starts berating me.

“You complete and utter fool! Not one bone of yours feels shame! Did you think you could spend the rest of your lives using Aerasak as your playground? Your selfish nature is destructive to everyone you meet!”

I glance towards the butler, wondering where this lecture is suddenly coming from. I sit patiently against the windowsill, waiting for him to finish. That is, until he punches me directly on the face. My face bounces off the window frame and blood spills from my nose.

“You still sit around pretending like you’ve done nothing! Have you no honor? No pride? Is the Ishiraya bloodline a bunch of heathens that run rampant?”

“What did I –”

“Silence! You are nothing but a coward, you son of a bitch! How can you run away from your responsibilities? For once in your life, do the right fucking thing!”

I gawk at all the sudden insults and accusations. I’ve never seen him so passionate about my wrongdoings before. My confusion leads him to reel his fist back for another punch.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait. What are you even talking about?”

Eras grabs my shirt with both hands and yells in my face.

“Priestess Shana is pregnant, you fucking idiot!”

He shoves me and I stagger, looking for something to lean on. The word 'pregnant’ falls from his lips like a thunderclap. My stupor is completely shattered.

“Pregnant,” I repeat, the word not settling in.

“Yes, pregnant! All because you couldn’t keep away from her!”

The reality of Shana carrying my child is a revelation that rocks me to the core.

We… made a child.

Eras fumbles in his armor, looking for something. He sticks out a note and puts it in front of me.

“She asked me to give you this,” he says.

With trembling hands, I take the letter from Eras. I quickly open it, nervous and excited all at the same time.

“I can’t believe this,” I whisper, a smile playing on my lips. I read each line over and over again. “What do I do now?”

“Move,” Eras commands with a warrior’s clarity. His expression’s firm and full of resolve. “Act before the tides of fate sweep away your chance of redemption.”

His words are a catalyst igniting resolve within my heart. Now spurred with the necessity and awakened desire, I rise to the call – the prospect of fatherhood transforming my sorrow into a focused determination to reclaim my mate and child.

“I’m going to her, Eras.”
