“When I’m- Sariel, come back here!”

Sariel stalked out of the tent ignoring Alastor’s shouts and strode across the rough ground to where I was sitting, half choking on my beer as I laughed. She was beautiful: angry and self-righteous, her face determined, and her hair half loose streaming out behind her in a dark halo lit up by the setting sun. How anyone looked that damn majestic in a wetsuit, I had no idea, but she pulled it off perfectly.

She looked down at me, her dark eyes flashing in fury. “That man. That… that man!”

I pulled over another foldable seat. “Tell me about it.”

She hesitated then sat down next to me, huffing. I passed her a cold beer, popping off the top for her. She stared at, then reached out and wrapped her slender fingers around the neck, taking it from me. She brought it to her lips, and I watched, unable to take my eyes away as she wrapped her lips around it and tipped her head back, her throat constricting as the cold liquid flowed down it.

She closed her eyes in clear relief, and I imagined leaning over and running my mouth down the side of that glorious neck. Kissing and licking at her skin. She’d taste of salt of course, but I was dying to know how she tasted underneath that. Then as I reached the place where her neck met her shoulder, I would sink my teeth deep into her flesh, marking her as mine…

She opened her eyes and sat up straight, wiping her mouth. I took a drink of my own, lowering the bottle and my arm to mylap to hide the growing evidence of my little daydream. I needed a shower like crazy. I’d stripped the wetsuit down to my waist, but the salt was crusting on my skin and the water had left an oily sheen that wasn’t particularly pleasant. I’d wanted to check on Alastor first, after he’d been seen by Carlisle, and then I’d been distracted by the beer.

“Thanks, I needed that.”

“Make sure you drink a couple of bottles of water too,” I told her. “Don’t want you dropping from dehydration before round two with Alastor.”

She frowned at me for a moment, and then laughed. I blinked. It was such an incredibly sweet sound, and the first time I’d seen her relax that much. I loved it. It suited her.

“You heard all that?” she asked, a pink tinge creeping over her cheeks that for some reason took my cock from vaguely interested to rock fucking hard in zero to sixty.

I grinned. “I think the entire camp heard all that. I greatly enjoyed it though.”

She sneaked a look at me and grinned shyly. “I don’t do well at following orders, whatever he might say about angels.”

“Indeed.” I leaned forward and clinked my bottle to hers. “Especially as I’d heard angels weren’t allowed to drink alcohol and that’s the second time I’ve seen you drink beer.”

She looked down at the beer and bit her lip, then looked up at me and for a moment I swore I saw a spark of mischief in her eyes. “I’m certain this is soda, not alcohol, Theo,” she responded, all innocence.

I laughed. “God, woman, where have you been all my life?”

Sariel frowned. “Serving as Host commander in Heaven. Why?”

I shook my head, still smiling. “It’s an expression. I just mean… I like you. You’re not half bad for an angel.”

She smiled at me, a real smile full of warmth and my stomach jumped and my heart felt like it hit my rib cage at full speed.

“I like you too, Theo. You’re not half bad either. For a wolf.”

Warmth spread through me, and I opened my mouth to say something I shouldn't, but she turned away and looked towards the med tent.

She took another drink of her beer. “Hellhounds on the other hand…”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. Dickheads, the lot of them.”

She turned back towards me, her eyebrows raised in surprise, and I grinned. “But underneath it all, he’s a good man, you know? And I’d trust him with my life. And my family’s.”

Sariel looked down at her beer, making a non-committal noise. Then she looked back up. “Do you have a family? A… wife?”

I smiled and leaned back against the chair. “I have a mother and three fathers, and ten brothers and sisters, but no, no mate. Yet.”

I sneaked a glance at her, and watched as I said the last few words, trying not to react outwardly as a broad smile spread across her face. Then her face fell.

“Are you going to have a mate soon then?”

“No, why?”

“You said yet.”
