“Logan,” she shouts as she comes out of the trees.

I’m pleased to see that she has her daughter with her. Their hands are clasped together, swinging. Ava was unable to give birth to children. Recently, she adopted a little girl. I have never seen anyone so happy as she was when they brought her home.

“Ava,” I reply. I lean in to hug her and feel the tug on my pant leg.

“Unc,” a little voice says. I pull back and look at the perfect upturned face of Revel.

She holds her arms up and moves her fingers. “Revel, my girl,” I say softly. I give her what she wants and pick her up. She will turn four in a few months and loves her Unc. “How are you?”

“Good,” she says. “Walk.”

“We decided to go for a walk. She wanted some fresh air,” Ava explains.

“Jelly bean, wait up,” River yells, jogging over with Kerian.

“Daddy, you slow,” Revel says with a little laugh.

“Nuh-uh,” River scowls. “I had to let my Jelly Bean win the race.”

“Silly,” Revel giggles. “I won, DaDa.” She looks at Kerian.

“You did.” Kerian smiles gently. “You and Mommy won.”

“Mommy, Mommy, Mommy,” she chants, kicking her legs into my stomach.

Ava’s eyes shine. Revel has been with them for two months permanently. It took a month for her to call Ava “Mommy.”

“Revel has been practicing her shift,” Ava says, clearing her throat. “She’s getting so good.” She squeezes Revel’s leg affectionately.

Revel’s family was killed. They don’t know many details, but someone found Revel wandering the streets, crying. She doesn’t remember her name, so River named her, and she loves it. She is a wolf shifter like them. They think she blocked out everything that happened, or she chooses not to talk about it. But she has been adjusting well and loves the attention and love they heap on her. It’s incredible the amount of trust she gives all of her extended family.

“You walked a long way,” I say suspiciously.

“We needed the exercise,” River replies, eating a chocolate bar.

River loves food and mysteriously always has food somewhere on his person.

“Choco, choco,” Revel demands, holding out a hand.

I put her down so she can climb into River’s arms. Kerian runs his hand over her hair, love shining in his eyes.

“You didn’t happen to talk to Bash or Quinn?” I ask as they all avoid looking at me.

“We may have run into Bash,” Ava admits.

“The grumpy vampire couldn’t wait to tell us you found your mate,” River adds.

“Really? Did you hear anything else?” I ask; their timing couldn’t be better. The guys should be here with Breeane soon.

“Nope,” River says, popping the p.

“I was so happy for you, Logan,” Ava gushes, gripping my arm. “What’s she like? I heard that she knows about shifters. How?”

“Darlin’,” Kerian says. “I understand you are excited for him, but can you step back?”

She steps back hastily. Even though they are mated and would never do anything with anyone else, getting close to other males sets off possessive instincts. I would have found it humorous before, but now that I found Breeane, I understand.

“She is beautiful,” I tell her softly. “Her friend is a bear shifter.”
