“Bash is my mate,” she says proudly, leaning into him as Breeane is doing to me. “You don’t seem to be scared.”

“No,” Breeane says.

“Good. I’m so happy that they found you,” Marie goes on.

“Can we get back to the fucker that is holding a shifter fighting ring?” Quinn snarks.

“Watch it, bear,” Bash growls. “I’ll still tear your head off.”

“Try it, vampire,” Quinn goads.

“Aren’t you guys friends?” Breeane frowns.

“Yeah,” they both answer at the same time, and Marie rolls her eyes.

“Don’t mind them. It’s how they show their love,” she assures me.

“Love,” Quinn snorts.

“Shifter ring,” Bash reminds us.

“Heath has his hands in all kinds of investments, but the most profitable are casinos and bars. He started the fighting ring a couple of years ago. It was small at first because he’s a paranoid bastard. He has grown at an amazing rate. There are several buildings he holds them in across many states. The people who come to him for money are desperate and agree to whatever terms he demands. Depending on the person, the fighting ring is one of those terms. They can leave once they win back the money they owe him.” Quinn walks behind the desk and hits a few buttons on the computer. “This him?” he asks.

I ease away from Breeane to look. “Yes,” I confirm. The picture of him makes him look like a perfect gentleman and businessman.

“He is very private. He doesn’t reveal much about himself. There is a team behind him that must get paid a shit ton of money to keep anything suspicious or damaging out of the news.”

“How the hell do you know all this?” I worked for the man, and I knew next to nothing.

“I told you, I know someone,” Quinn says simply.

“I don’t want to know the people you know then,” I mutter.

“Probably not,” he shrugs. “But they respect me and give me information sometimes.”

“Does Heath know where I am? How badly did he react because I left?”

“I don’t know, but I have asked the question.” He shuts the computer and sits in the chair.

“You have people we don’t know asking about Lucas?” Las asks with narrowed eyes.

“Yes,” Quinn says firmly. “I trust them. They know how to ask the questions I need answers to.”

“Fuck,” Logan grits.

“You can believe him,” Marie assures us.

“As much as it pains me,” Bash sighs. “He wouldn’t do anything to put you in danger. Especially since you have a mate.”

“Fine, what do we do now?” I ask.

“Nothing.” Quinn puts his heels on the desk.

“Nothing?” Breeane wrinkles her nose, tilts her head, and looks at him. I want to laugh.

“We can’t fight what we don’t know. We don’t know what they are going to do. Maybe Heath chalked it up to a small loss in his very big pond. Those two men could be the only ones that lost anything and want it back,” Quinn points out.

“He’s right,” Logan agrees. “We can’t do anything yet. I suggest we go on as usual, but be cautious. The most important thing is protecting our mate. We can take turns staying in the cabin.”
