“I think Ava and Saylor would know him best,” Harmony says, tipping her glass.

“I already voted for a teddy bear,” Ava reminds us. “The intensity is just for show.”

“I think he has many levels,” Saylor says.

“That was a cop-out,” Penny shouts. “You just don’t want it to get back to your hot cowboy that you think any kind of way towards Logan. You can say he’s a fine man.”

“Are those your mates?” Saylor asks, pointing behind Penny.

“Fuck,” Penny whispers, her head whipping around so fast she practically falls out of her chair.

Saylor laughs hysterically. “Your face.”

“Such a bitch,” Penny glares, but her lips twitch as she adjusts her chair.

My cheeks hurt so bad. “I love this.”

“You haven’t seen anything yet,” Harmony says. “We’ve barely gotten started.”

“You say that like we are very bad girls.” Penny tugs on Harmony’s hair.

“I think we all can agree that we can be bad once in a while,” Marie smiles slowly. “Our mates don’t mind it.” Bash is leaning on the bar with his back to us, but he must be listening. He turns his head slightly, staring at the bar. I see his profile and the smirk on his lips.

“Alright, I can agree with that.” Ava clinks her glass with Marie.

“Ladies, only one person at this table can answer all our questions…” Penny leans forward, her eyebrows raised.

All of their attention is centered on me. Having stunning shifters and vampires focused on you is a little overwhelming. I have been acting like it isn’t a huge deal, and most of the time, I haven’t thought about it. They don’t act differently than other girls talking about their boyfriends. One of them alone could kill me with little effort. All of them? I wouldn’t stand a chance. It is a surreal realization. It’s also a powerful one. These women don’t necessarily need their mates to protect them; their men love them so much they would do anything for them.

I could be part of the group. I could belong to three of my own protective mates. For me, that is a tempting fate.

I take a sip, sit down my glass, and wrap my hands around it. “Logan is hurt. I don’t know the reasons yet, but I see it deep inside. He’s trying to find his way through it, and I hope I can help him heal. He loves his brothers. I have seen the ache in his eyes when he looks at them, as if he doesn’t know how to reach out to them. He looks at me with such longing that my breath catches. He is the complete package: strong, sensitive, but gruff. He will worship who he is with.

“Lucas is angry. He looks up to Logan so much but doesn’t realize it. He’s had to fight for every bit of love. Not love from his brothers but love for himself. I don’t think he loves himself as much as he should. He doesn’t believe he deserves me or the love of his brothers.” I stare at my glass. “Lucas is…” I pause. “Complicated. He’s searching for where he belongs and doesn’t know his place is with his brothers. He hides his insecurities behind humor, anger, and a touch of cockiness.

“Las,” I sigh. “He is holding it together for his brothers. He’s soft and hard all at the same time. He pretends to let his brothers run the show, but we all know he’s running it. He may be quiet, but he speaks when it’s important. When he talks, they listen. He’s steady, strong, yet sensitive when he needs to be. He’s the kind of guy that would kill without a thought if the people he loves are in danger and then cuddle you after.” I look up to see shock surrounding me and a few tears.

“You’ve only been here a few days?” Harmony asks.

“Yeah, I like to observe.” I shrug. “Plus, they are hot as fuck, so it’s not a hardship to watch them.”

Penny laughs but sobers quickly. “I think they are lucky to have found you.”

“I agree,” Ava says. “They need your love.”

“I hope to give it to them,” I say softly.

“Have you guys talked about the bond? The change?” Marie asks.

“A little.” I finish off my drink. I should slow down—I am not a big drinker. “I already knew a little about it.”

“Ryker said your friend is a bear shifter?” Serenity asks.

I nod. “She’s told me about mates.”

“Still, they should make sure you are fully informed.” Penny shoves a handful of popcorn in her mouth. “Have they given you any orgasms yet?” she mumbles with a full mouth.

“Penny,” Harmony cries.
