“Information. We need to know who he owes and how much. Knowledge is power.”

“You said I shouldn’t call.” He opens a drawer, pulls out a phone, and throws it to Las.

“You will use this phone.”

I stare at the phone with trepidation. “Do I have to?”

Quinn says, “Yes.”

At the same time, Lucas and Logan say, “No.”

I look at Las in question at his lack of response. “I want to say no as my brothers did.” He slides the phone onto my lap. “I see Quinn’s point, though. Do you want to worry every day if he is sending someone after you? I want to ignore it and go on with our lives together. No matter what, we will be here to protect you, but I also know you won’t enjoy being on lockdown.”

“Lockdown?” I frown.

“Every day, all of us will guard you. We will insist you don’t leave the house; no more nights with the girls. It might be fun for a while.”

I love being with them. I imagine not being able to go anywhere by myself, and I cringe. “I’ll call,” I say reluctantly.

“Smart choice,” Quinn says.

“Jesus, Quinn,” Logan sneers. Quinn shrugs.

“What should I ask?” I pick up the phone and turn to face the growly man behind the desk, hating that he has valid points.

“Greet him like normal,” he instructs.

“Normal,” I snort.

“Ask him about the money. What did he bet on? Let the conversation flow. Do not tell him about your mates or where you are,” Quinn says.

I roll my eyes at him and lift the phone. Logan stands behind me, his hands on the back of my chair.

“Put it on speaker,” he says. I look over my shoulder and nod.

I enter the number with determination. I hold it in my palm and listen to it ring. Caleb is probably on high alert; he may not answer an unknown number.

Just when I think he won’t answer, his voice booms, “Who the fuck is this?”

“Caleb, it’s me.”

“Sis, thank god. What phone are you using? I’ve been calling; why didn’t you answer?”

“My phone broke,” I lie quickly. “I got a new one. How are you?” I ask, cringing. I’m trying to act normal and failing.

“Can you transfer the money on that phone?”

I close my eyes. I don’t know why I still get my hopes up when I speak to him. “I can’t.”

“Do you have a computer? Or tell me where you are, and I’ll take you to the bank.”

“Caleb,” I sigh. “How much do you owe?”

I can hear the smile in his voice. “I knew my sis would come through. Fuck, I love you. I need the ten grand today. I can meet you. If you need me to take you to the bank, I can.”

“What did you lose it on this time?” He only tells me he loves me when I am giving him money. How sad is that?

“You don’t need to be bothered with that, Sis. Just know you are the best sister in the world. You are saving my ass,” he chuckles.
