Quinn holds up a piece of paper that says, ‘fights or machines.’

“Maybe you shouldn’t bet on the fights anymore.”

“Shit, Sis, I don’t bet on fights much anymore,” he says. “When can we meet?”

“What do you bet on now?” I persist.

“Is this going to become an intervention again?” he groans. “Listen, I do bet on fights. I also bet on games and at the casinos. Unfortunately, I lost big at the casino. It happens. I’ll win it back,” he explains.

“You never win,” I whisper.

“What?” he asks confused.

“Caleb, you never win.” Quinn writes something else. “Do you know someone named Heath?” I read off the paper he holds up. I frown, and my mates tense up.

“Who? Is that someone I should know?”

“How about the Boss?” I continue to read.

“I don’t know who the fuck those people are, and I don’t care. Where can we meet?” he snaps.

“Caleb, I told Steph not to talk to you,” I start softly. Quinn sighs and leans back. “Her uncles know the situation and are looking after her.”

“I don’t fucking care. I need that money.”

“I wish it was different. I can’t give you that money,” I say.

“Bree,” he says. “Yes, you can.”

“I won’t. I told you before. You need to get help. I will not talk to you again until you do,” I say slowly but firmly.

“You fucking bi—” I jerk as Logan grabs the phone, ending the call, and throws it on Quinn’s desk.

“No,” Logan shouts. “She doesn’t need to listen to that shit. She won’t be calling him again. If you want more information, do…your…fucking…job,” He leans over my chair. “And investigate,” he growls.

I stare at him, wide-eyed, over my shoulder.

I was on the verge of tears.

How can I be turned on now?

Chapter Sixteen

Logan

My lion is prowling inside. He wants to teach her brother a lesson. I couldn’t listen to one more manipulating word out of her brother's mouth. We don’t know if she is in any danger. Caleb wasn’t going to tell her.

“He doesn’t get to speak that way to you,” I tell her. “You will not talk to him again. Do you understand?”

“Yes,” she says, gulping.

“No one gets to disrespect you. I don’t give a fuck if they are family or not.” I hold her eyes for another minute to make sure my point is made before I look at Quinn. “We will pay you to keep an eye on her brother. My brothers and I will protect her from any motherfucker that comes here to harm her. You will not ask her again to reach out to him. Ever.”

The asshole's lips twitch. “Got it.”

I narrow my eyes. “I don’t think I got my point across.”

“You did.” He nods slowly, sobering. “I did finish one of the jobs—the two men after Lucas are moving away. There have been no signs they know where he is.”
