“I met three lion shifters. They are so yummy, sweet, and gruff. They said that we are mates.” I chew on my fingernail, waiting for her reaction.

“Hold up. How? They live there?”

“Yes, they are the guys that are going to do the work to the bakery. I was given their phone number; we set a time to meet, and one of them walked in and knew right away.”

“Of course he did,” she muses. “You remembered everything we talked about?”

“Yes, I admitted that I knew what they were. With all the smelling going on, how could I not?” I snort. “The other two walked in, and they said they were all my mates.”

“So, you have been spending time with them?”

“Yes,” I confirm.

“They haven’t pressured you?”

“Not at all. They took it very well when I told them I wanted to date them before I made a decision.” I love their version of dating.

“Are they good men?”

“Yes.” It’s my turn to hesitate. “There’s something else.”

“Oh fuck, what?”

“The first lion I met, his name is Logan.”

“Logan,” she whispers. “A lion shifter.”

“He…” I gulp. “He was in the games with you.” The silence is nerve-racking. “We didn’t connect the dots until today. He told me what he went through. He didn’t know you were the Stephanie that was there.” I wait.

I wait some more.

“He’s alright?” she asks quietly.

“He asked the same about you. He hasn’t been great, but I think he’s going to be better.”

“You will be a big contributor to that,” she says.

“I hope so,” I reply.

“He was a broken man by the time Ava rescued us.”

“I met Ava. Logan wanted me to ask you about her. You never told me the name of the woman who started the rescue,” I remind her.

“Ava,” she says softly with a smile in her voice. “I didn’t think it was important at the time. She is there, then?”

“Yes. Didn’t you know they lived here?”

“No. I didn’t stick around to find out much about them. They took shifters from all over.”

“I understand. You will get to see her again when you get here.”

“I’ll be prepared to see them again.” She hums. “So, three mates,” she prods.

“I am getting used to the idea,” I say cheekily.

“I bet. I remember Logan being quite handsome.”

I laugh. “He is that.”
