Shaking my head, I urged my heart to calm down again. “No, it just smiled at me.”

“And you’ve never seen anything like it before?”

“Never. I’ve never been so exhausted after receiving a premonition before, either.”

Rowan looked like he didn’t know what to make of it either, and he just looked at me, still worried.

I thought about what Kai had said about keeping an eye out, and the realization hit me immediately.

Standing up completely, I pulled away from Rowan and almost deflated from the lack of contact.

His shoulders dropped in subtle defeat. “Where are you going?”

“I need to tell Kai about it.”

“Yes, you do, and you should, but that can wait,” he said, tone gentle as he spoke to me. “You should rest for a little bit. You practically collapsed back there.”

Pausing in front of him, I caught myself staring into those eyes, feeling tethered to the spot. His concern was practically alight in his gaze, telling me it was genuine.

Looking between his eyes and mouth, straying to take in the sharp curve of his jaw and the strength behind it, I swallowed hard.

We were so close still that I could feel the heat radiating from his body, and that warmth pulled me in. Silently, as we studied each other, that tension was thick enough to cut, and I couldn’t pull myself away.

He was beautiful, and something in me felt magnetized to him.

Even after everything that happened, I felt myself slipping.

That yearning swelled inside me and made my body ache for his touch. I regretted pulling away from him and wanted to feel that comfort again.

Catching myself from letting those thoughts compel me into giving in to him and those perfect lips, I fought my hardest to push it away.

As hard as I tried, my exhausted state made it harder to accomplish.

Regardless of how I felt about him, there was no denying how tempting he looked against the cold brick wall.

“Let me take you home,” Rowan offered, nudging his head in the direction of the parking lot. “I’ll make sure you get there.”

While that alarm rang in my head, the part of me that wanted to resist him no matter what, sounded muted enough for me to ignore.

I knew I should’ve stayed with the girls, but I was tired, and the thought of being home sounded amazing. Not to mention, I couldn’t help but toe the line of attraction. Of acting on it or pushing it off longer to see who would crack first.

“Okay,” I managed, reaching for my cell. “I just need to text someone.”

Rowan nodded with understanding. “Are you okay to walk?”

Even if I knew there was an underlying invitation to be taken care of, I couldn’t lie at that moment. I nodded, leaving the cold wall behind. I sent a text off to Sienna as quickly as I could so that none of them would worry about me.

Not pushing me any further, Rowan led me around to the front that was lit up from the front sign.

The realization hit me the moment we stood in front of the one vehicle he had in Rose Valley. His motorcycle.

Rowan gave me a sheepish look. “Are you sure you’re all right with this?”

I had never been on one before, and it certainly made me feel apprehensive. But I didn’t want to hesitate. I just wanted to go home.

Reigning in some bravery, I nodded. “Absolutely.”

A hint of a smile graced his beautiful lips, and he reached into one of the saddlebags. He pulled out two helmets and passed one to me.
