During the months after my confrontation with Sam and before the baby arrived, Jane spent as much time as possible in the old bookstore with Ivy’s help. But postpartum left her wishing she could get back and finish it up.

Knowing how much it meant to her, I enlisted the help of a few pack members, including Ivy, who supplied us with Jane’s layout plans. We continued where she had left off, and within those few months, the place was transformed completely.

Gone was the dusty old abandoned bookstore, and a revived wonderful library stood in its place.

“No peeking,” I told Jane as I guided her toward the building while she had a blindfold.

“What’s going on?” She asked, clearly unnerved by the idea of there being a surprise. “Should I be scared?”

“Scared? Of course not. Elated? That’s what I’m hoping for,” I teased, stopping her just outside the door.

“Trust me, you will be more than elated,” Ivy said from behind us as she pushed Forest’s stroller.

“All right,” I murmured, placing a hand on the small of her back. “You can take it off now.”

Letting go of a nervous breath, Jane pulled the blindfold off and immediately froze.

She looked at the front door, then peered inside before the realization hit her. Shock filled her system as she turned to look at me, expression bright. “You finished it?”

Unable to suppress my amusement, I nodded. “I had some help.”

“No way,” she said, feigning a pout with happy tears gathering in her eyes. “Levi, this is incredible! Are you kidding me?”

“I knew how much it meant to you, and I didn’t want you to think your life had to be completely paused while caring for Forest. Whenever you’re ready, you can get started here whenever you like.”

“And everyone’s already here,” she commented, looking in as some of the pack members browsed the selection and got a feel for the place. She tenderly put a hand against her chest and couldn’t contain how happy she was. “I’m so glad.”

“Let’s have a look around,” I suggested, motioning for her to go ahead. “I think you’ll notice it looks familiar in here.”

As she walked inside and took it all in, she gasped quietly to herself. “The layout. This is exactly how I wanted it.”

“Ivy brought us your plans, and we made it happen. I thought you should have your own thing to focus on, and this seemed like a great opportunity.”

“It’s perfect,” she said, rubbing carefully beneath her eyes. “Oh, look at everyone already reading and finding books they like. And the snacks and refreshments for everyone. This is so nice, Levi. Thank you.”

She tucked herself into my side then as she watched the others interact with the place she dreamed up, and I put my arm around her, placing a kiss against her head.

“I’m so proud of you,” I murmured, committed to letting her know that as much as possible. “You’re going to be a wonderful librarian.”

Jane giggled at that, smile beaming for everyone to see. “I can’t wait.”

It didn’t matter what she pursued, I knew she would be wonderful at anything she put her mind to. She was perfect in every way, and I couldn’t thank the Goddess enough for choosing her to be my life partner.

Even with a newborn, the tech firm and everything pack-related, I knew we could handle anything as long as we did it together.
