“You’re all monsters,” I bite out. “Who is the ghost?” If they give me a name, then we can end this for good.

If I ever escape.

“Don’t worry about Daniel, he doesn’t like to talk to his victims,” Reese tells me with a maniacal laugh that feels like nails on a chalkboard. Shiver after shiver overtakes me and I want to run, to hide, but it’s a dead end behind me and the ghostly duo still block the other exit.

What the fuck do I do now?

Lucien

Someone is shaking me, but it is hard to wake up, my head is heavy and feels weird. Even as I force myself to open my eyes and look around, my vision is blurry.

“What's going on?” I mutter, trying to sit up and look at Eli since he’s trying to wake me.

“We’ve been gassed,” Eli states, holding the side of his head.

“What?” I ask as Jayce reappears in the room with distress on his face.

“Guys, Raven’s gone,’’ he says.

This gets me to my feet. “What do you mean she’s gone?”

“As in ‘she’s nowhere in the house,’” he says, pulling on his socks and shoes. “We need to get out there. She’s in danger, I can feel it. Something feels off, malicious.

“So, we were gassed and someone took her?” I ask, the gas making my understanding more difficult.

“It has to be the same person that we caught on the camera. Damn it, I knew that we shouldn’t have stayed here when we didn’t find them,” Eli states.

“Talk like that will not find Raven,” I say, shaking my head, hoping to rid some of this brain fog.

“We need to call the sheriff and get out flashlights,” Jayce says.

He is always the most rational of us, even now in our compromised states.

“Eli, you call Leo. Jayce, you get the flashlights, and I’m going to find some kind of weapons,” I say, stumbling toward the rooms that have had some renovations. Even walking is a chore, my feet feel full of lead as I make my way through the house.

I know that I saw a hammer and other tools there. I have no clue what we’re about to face, but I feel that we need to have something in hand.

After a few minutes of fumbling around, I find a hammer and a couple of crowbars. When I return to the other two, Eli is putting his phone up and Jayce hands me a flashlight, nodding in thanks as I hand over a crowbar in return.

“Why do I feel like we are bringing a knife to a gunfight?” Jayce says, glancing over his new weapon.

“Well I, for one, feel better with this in my hand,” Eli tells Jayce as he takes the hammer from me.

“I agree. Is the sheriff on his way?” I question as we head toward the door.

“He is. He told me to stay in the house until he gets here but he’s ten minutes out. I’m not sure when she was taken and what is happening to her. I think that the more time she’s gone, the more she can be tortured.”

The word ‘torture’ hits a nerve and I feel as if there is a knife plunged into my heart.

“Let’s go, Raven’s a smart girl, she would have left us a trail if she could,” I tell them. “You two let me know if you get any tingle from your ghostly gifts. I don’t see how mine will be helpful.”

“I think Jayce’s may be the most useful right now,” Eli comments as he closes the door behind us.

The cool air stings a little but the chill of not knowing where Raven is and what’s happening to her is far worse.

“Why didn’t we stay at the apartment today?” Jayce asks from behind us.

“No time for regret. Maybe you should lead in case you get a feeling? I agree with Eli, you are the best bet to find our girl,” I tell him.
