When I found nothing I stopped, watching as the guys worked and pretending to check the clock on the wall.

Then her eyes flickered downward and I knew we had to get her out of that chair.

“Guys,” I said evenly. “Remember that time I came home from a long day and Eli greeted me a bit intensely? We both ended up breaking that vase?”

“Yeah that was… wait, why?” he demanded, his smile falling.

“It’s under her,” I mouthed as I faced away.

“What are you talking about?” Lucy demanded. It was strange to see a ghost staying in one spot. But even more crazy was how solid she was. Whatever tethered her here was strong.

“One.”

She narrowed her eyes on me.

“Two.”

“What are you doing?” she scoffed.

“Three!” Jayce yelled as we all ran at her. She tried to stand her ground but with the amount of supernatural protection on us and me uncorking my vial and throwing it at her, she was launched out of her chair and thrown into the wall.

I grabbed the chair and flipped it up, but the vinyl was tacked down tight. The last thing we needed was to grab a knife out here.

“No, look,” Lucien said, reaching for the floor. There was a small hole in the tile and he reached for it, flipping it open before he was yanked away from us.

Every instinct in me was screaming for me to follow him but the guys were already on their way. Instead, I took a deep breath and reached inside the cobweb-covered hole.

Whatever she was guarding was the secret to this place.

My fingers clutched something metal and I pulled it out with care.

"No, you can't have that!" Lucy screamed from where she fell.

In the dim light, I notice that it once had a yellow flower on it but now the paint peeled away from the metal. Eli went to grab it from me and I snatched my hand away.

"Don't you touch it," I warned him.

We still didn't know what triggered him, but touch would do it, right?

"I wasn't thinking," he started.

"Sorry," I muttered as I stood and dusted off my black pants.

"That's mine," Lucy hissed as she fought to move closer to us.

"Let's get this outside and burn it," Jayce commented and moved to take the tin.

Something told me not to let anyone else touch this, so I did the same as I had with Eli and moved.

"Yes, I need some fresh air," I told them.

Eli and Lucien took the lead as Jayce grasped my hand and we walked fast toward the front door.

"That has an evil aura around it. Do you feel it, too?" he questioned me.

"I do," I confirmed. The darkness felt as if it was creeping up my arm.

Grace appeared near me, "Hurry, that is cursed."
