The unseen writer just continues what they are trying to tell me. Anxiety clutches at my chest, making it hard to breathe.

TRUST NO ONE.

What does that mean? I know that I can trust my guys, so who is this ghostly message about?

“The sheriff?” I question.

The letter Y appears on the mirror before everything is wiped away. So, is the hot lawman in on whatever my uncle did? Or is he the one that’s trying to claim the farm? I step into the shower with a million more questions than I already had.

Then a cold feeling washes over me. If we can’t trust the sheriff, then we are on our own.

That unsettling feeling has me taking one of the quickest showers of my life and throwing on my clothes so I can join the guys.

The worry ebbs away at the sight of them and I can’t help but linger in the doorway, captivated at the sight of the life we created.

Jayce is nursing a cup of coffee and listening as Lucien goes on about some ideas he had for the farm. Eli adds in a comment or joke here and there as he flips pancakes on the griddle. Lucien is manning bacon on the other burner, and they’re working around each other in perfect harmony.

Lucien had a fairly rough transition from ghost to human. He’s grateful to be alive again but the world has changed a lot and he has no choice but to catch up. Most chalk his strange way of speaking up to being an old soul.

Seeing them so close like this makes their features stand out even more. Lucien’s bright-copper hair is vibrant against Jayce and Eli’s dark brown. Jayce and his glasses, a stoic expression on his face as he observes. Eli and his natural smile brightens the moods of the others as he interacts with them.

I truly am the luckiest girl. They’re just as perfect with each other as they are with me and I love them more for it. We’ve created a family of our own here.

“Are you going to stand there and check us out or are you getting your cute ass in here for this conversation?” Eli calls out when he sees me standing in the doorway.

“I guess I can come in, but it’s such a nice sight,” I joke as I walk in and pour my own mug of coffee. Lucien is there in a moment adding the perfect amount of cream and sugar before returning to his post. “How can I not stop and appreciate how lucky I am?”

“It’s true, we are quite amazing,” Eli agrees with a laugh. Lucien shakes his head.

“So humble, Eli,” he fires back.

“Or confident,” Jayce supplies helpfully. “But now that you’re here, I’m dying to share what I found.”

“I have something to share, too,” I agree as I set my coffee down and move behind Jayce, massaging his shoulders that have to be insanely sore. He groans as his head falls forward, thoughts of his research gone as I give him at least a little bit of relief.

I don’t stop until the guys are done with breakfast and have it on the table. Jayce finally blinks open his eyes and downs his coffee in one gulp.

“You’re taking a nap today,” I order him with no room for argument. “No more research until you pass out completely.”

“Fine, fine,” he grumbles. “I’m getting too damn old for this sleeping hunched over, crap.”

“So, what did you find? I’m dying over here,” Eli says around a mouth full. He gets a stern look from Lucien but ignores it completely.

“There were two incidents on public record,” Jayce starts but Lucien again lets out a groan of exasperation.

“Did you hack into public records again?!” he demands. “You’re all going to be the death of me all over again.”

Jayce chuckles. “Don’t ask if you don’t really want to know. They’re for the public, just because they haven’t made it all virtual yet isn’t my problem.”

“Our town is old,” Eli laughs. “The fact they started the process of transferring to digital is a damn miracle.”

“Amen to that,” Jayce says as he gets up to make another cup of coffee. “The first incident was a police report. It was while Pandora’s mom was still alive because she was listed. It was a property dispute with a neighbor that went south. The neighbor was, apparently, demanding that he take over their home and the old barn because it rests on his property line.”

“Did it?” I question. “Did you find the land surveys in there, too?”

He turns and grins at me. “You know I did. I printed it off but never grabbed it.”

“On it.” I rush over to our wireless printer, taking a hefty stack of papers from the top. “Apparently, you got more than that.”
