“Yes.” My voice shakes with emotion as a tear escapes down my cheek. “I know you’re my alpha, Jake.”
He pulls me close and kisses me, his lips soft and warm against mine. I can feel his heart beating against my chest, matching the rhythm of my own.
“I’ll make you mine,” he growls, his voice low and commanding. “And I’ll protect you with my life.”
I nod. “I know, Jake,” I say, my voice barely above a whisper, trembling with emotion. “You already have. You brought me here. You rescued me.”
“I had to. Do you see that now? I always knew it was you.”
“You’ve always wanted me,” I state, surprise in my tone.
“I did, and the day you contacted me telling me you wanted to escape your stepfather, I knew you were going to be mine.”
I narrow my eyes as I stare at him.
He sighs. “Your stepfather is selling your sisters for millions to billionaires. I couldn’t afford to buy you.”

My fingers feel for the USB in my pocket. I fish out the small stick.
“Sorry, I need to listen to this before anything else. Can we talk later?”
Jake presses a kiss to my forehead. “I could go all alpha on you...”
I grin. “You’re Jake. You’re too perfect and wouldn’t do that.”
He wiggles his eyebrows. “Wouldn’t I?”
My teeth dig into my bottom lip as I try to contain my smile. “Later ... Later you can show me how alpha you can be.”
He nods. “I’m going to. I’ve held back for far too long.”
I shake the USB stick in the air. “Then time is of the essence.”
“I’ve got a call to make to the Professor. I’ll do it now,” he says.
“Today has been the best day.” I smile as I stare at him. “You and me. The investment opportunity. And finding out my sister is looking for me. I think life is finally looking up.”
“I like that you put me first.” He holds his arms out and I fall against his chest as he says, “I want a cuddle first.”
“Me too.”
