With one hand supporting her against me, I let the other trail down her body, tracing the curves of her waist and hips before teasingly inching towards the apex of her thighs. She gasps into my mouth as my fingers graze against her heated core, skimming over the sensitive bundle of nerves.

A moan slips from her lips, encouraging me to delve deeper.

I break the kiss, trailing kisses along the column of her neck, nipping at her soft skin as I go. Hinting at my desire to bond her… to claim her.

My cock twitches. I blow out a windless breath as I try to control my aching dick.

She’s had enough and I need to respect her boundaries, like a good alpha should do for his omega when she is coming out of her heat. But her finally being in my arms makes that fucking hard.

“Alpha.” Her voice is barely a whisper as her perfect blue eyes look at me.

Her calling me alpha is not helping my raging cock.

“Yes, Omega?”

She turns on my lap and touches my cheek. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” she whispers.

My heart pounds against my ribs. It sounds like she is saying goodbye to me.

My lips press a tender kiss on her forehead. “I’ll do everything for you if you choose this pack as yours.”

Her eyes shine as she smiles at me. “I love this pack. I love everything you gave me, but I’m still scared of being bonded.”

The melancholy of her words strikes me in the chest.

“Scared.” I swallow the lump of emotion clogging my throat. “There’s nothing to be scared of. Being unbonded is what’s scary.”

She nods. “I need to get to know Gabe first. If I choose you, then I choose this pack. I want to be bonded with all my alphas. That’s the only fair way.”

I choke out a groan, knowing Gabe is going to find telling Ella about him so fucking hard. “Gabe is a mystery.”

Ella’s smile fades slightly as she looks down at her lap before her fingers slide over my shoulders. “And that frightens me. I just need time to understand our pack. I don’t want to rush into anything.”

Our pack.

I press my palm over her hand and bring it to my mouth, kissing away her doubts. “Ella, you can have all the time you need. We’re in no rush.” It’s a lie. Saying the words out loud is a stab to my heart, but I can’t let her see my anguish.

“Thank you for not pushing me.” She looks up at me as I brush her hair back from her face, my thumb gently stroking her cheek.

“I might be an alpha, but I’ve waited for you for years now. I can wait a little longer.”

She looks deep into my eyes, her lips quivering as if she understands the struggle I am facing.

“Walker, I feel you. I know you’re mine. And I like Gabe, but I didn’t at first. And now I need time to get to know him and be certain he’s the right alpha for me.” She smiles and then laughs a little. “I can’t believe you’re giving me the choice.”

Omegas don’t have a lot of choices in this world.

Once upon a time, my business was more important than finding an omega or a pack. Perhaps if I never knew of Ella, I may have taken an omega without her choosing me when I was ready.

But I was never ready. Not until the day Eleanor Darling, my best friend’s daughter, my goddaughter, revealed as an omega.

I should’ve walked away. Ran away.

But when an alpha is lucky enough to find the omega he smells as his, he waits... forever, if that may be the case.

Her eyes close for a moment, before flashing open and staring.

“I won’t rush you. But let me wash you, and then I’m going to put you in some comfy pajamas and sit with you while you go to sleep.”
