“Good enough to call Walker and let him know about the girls.”

“I saw the photos the kidnapper sent to us. I saw…” I shake my head, recalling how frightened and bloody both girls looked. “I heard my pack leader telling the kidnapper that he only wanted the dark-haired of the two girls and to get rid of the other.”

Jake swallows, his Adam’s apple rising and dropping in a long gulp.

“He cut her wrists.” Tears sting my eyes as I recall the video the kidnapper sent our pack. “He said Ella would only last a few hours and her sister’s fear would bring on her heat.”

“Bastards!” he hisses, inhaling deeply through his nose. Jake turns, holding his stomach before he throws up over the oak, herringbone patterned floor. “Fuck! Tell her.”

“I can’t.”

“You saved her.” Jake wipes the back of his hand over his mouth. “You fucking can.”

“No. She’s right. I’m a huge part of the reason her dad is dead.”

“You’re also the reason she and her sister are still alive.”

I stab my pen on my desk, scarring the wood with the nib as I glance at the toys she’s made. If I can do anything for Ella before I leave, it’s helping get her business online and ready to take orders.

I pick up my phone and wait for an answer.

“Hey Prof. How can I help you?”

“Hey Mac, how fast can you make me a website?” I ask.

“It depends on the detail.”

“Usual stuff. About the owner, and the services provided, give me an online shop, and somewhere she can keep ownership of her customers.”

“Do you have a name, a domain, the products, price list, and photos?”

“I’ll get the domain to you.” I stare at her toys again. “And I’ll populate the website with that information once it’s ready.”

“Okay, give me a day or two, and I’ll have something for you to look at.”

“Thanks, Mac. I really appreciate it.”

I end the call, rolling the cell through my fingers as I stare at the lowering sun.

Before I leave, it’s my hope that by helping Ella establish her business, I can bring a sense of normalcy back into her life.

I press my head into my hands and breathe.

It’s a hideous feeling knowing you found your omega, but you can’t have her, but it also makes me want to protect her even more, but this is the only way I can do it.

Walking away.

I’ve no right to be in her life, and I can’t expect Walker to choose me over his omega.

I deserve nothing.

I don’t deserve a good pack.

And I don’t deserve my sweet. Despite knowing, she is mine.

It doesn’t matter that inside, my heart is bleeding.
