But first, I need to know my omega is safe.

Chapter 27

Gabe

I watch the car at the end of the beach access and wait for my sweet omega to get out of the car and run to me.

I know she’s scared right now. She thinks I was the reason she was kidnapped, and she’s still worried I could still take her.

“Get out of the car, Ella.” My voice is a low hiss as I watch her talking to Jake.

I watch as Ella finally gets out of the car and runs towards me, her blue eyes wide with fear. She glances behind for a moment, watching the car and Jake drive away.

When she turns back to me, a ripple runs down her throat, there’s fear in her expression. But I also know her well enough to know she’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect herself.

As she approaches me, I reach out and take her hand, my thumb brushing against her knuckles. She flinches at the touch, but I keep hold of her hand.

“It’s okay, my sweet. You’re safe with me.” I say, trying to sound as reassuring as possible as we rush across the sand to the house.

“Am I?” she asks with wide eyes. Like she’s suddenly wondering why she ran to me.

“I promise … and just so you know, I’m leaving in a few days. I don’t want you looking at me and hating me for the past. I also don’t want you to not choose Walker because of me.”

She swallows. “Really?” Uncertainty coats her voice.

“I know I’m your alpha, but it doesn’t mean I deserve you.”

Ella bites her bottom lip, her eyes still wide with fear. “Thank you,” she whispers. “Alphas don’t normally care about things like that.”

I smile as I lead her toward the house, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore filling the air. We spend a few minutes in silence until we reach the wall that separates the house and the beach. “I wish I was like most alphas, but I’m not.”

She doesn’t respond, and I gesture to the house. “Let’s get you into the panic room, and then I can contact Walker and Jake.”

“Where is Walker? I tried to call him.”

“He had a meeting.” That’s all I choose to tell her as I unlock the door and we stroll down the hallway to the panic room.

I unlock the door and hand her the key card. “Only you can get yourself out of here. There’s no other way in.” I step inside the panic room. The room is small, but big enough for a single bed on one side, and a desk with a camera on the opposite side. I open a door at the rear. “You also have a bathroom.”

Ella swallows as she glances around the room. “Will I be safe here?”

“The perimeter of the room is made of steel. Your scent can’t leak outside and nobody can get inside unless you let them in.” My voice stutters as I pull open a drawer and remove a loaded gun. “This is your last resort. You shouldn’t need to use it, but ...”

She nods as she stares at the gun before her eyes flick to the camera. “Are you staying inside with me?” There’s hope in her eyes.

I shake my head. “You’ll be in control here. This…” I shut the door and press the key card over a scanner on the wall. The door clicks. I push it open. “This is how you’ll get out? But only come out when Walker tells you to.”

“Not you?”

“Sit down,” I say, gesturing to the bed. Ella nods and sits down, her eyes close, her nose twitches. It’s the tiniest movement and suddenly her eyes are open wide as she stares.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

Ella takes a deep breath. “Nothing.”

I nod, not wanting to push her. “You’re worried about Jake. I get it. But once I have you locked in here and safe. We’re going to lure the man who was following you back to the house.”

Ella nods, her eyes blinking. “Okay.”
