Her eyes flashed with heat as she looked at me from my barefoot toes to the top of my shaggy-haired head.

“Man’s body, yes, but you’re right, boys don’t appeal to me.”

Damn her.

I sat still and unmoving as my pants grew a little tighter in the crotch, watching her work through her own lust as she came back to the problem at hand.

“So?” she said finally, plopping down on the couch next to me, tucking her feet under her sexy as fuck pencil skirt. “What conclusions have you come to, then? You’re the mature one, so tell me what you’d like to do; how you’d like this to play out.”

Nerves roiled in my gut, and I hated the feeling almost as much as I loved it. Fear sucked, but it also makes you feel fucking alive.

“Well, I have two plans, actually,” I told her, moving a little so I could face her better on the couch. “Which plan I go with depends on what you’re ready for.”

She blinked at me.

“So you don’t have a plan.”

“I do. I have two. Plan A, which I would prefer, or plan B, which I’ll manage if that’s how you feel.”

“Then what’s plan A?”

Shit, I was going to throw up.

“Plan A is you and me decide that we’re really doing this, I move back here and get an apartment, or we get a place together, and I’ll find a job out here.”

Holy shit, the courage it took to get those words out of my mouth was incredible. I’d stared down the barrel of an enemy's gun and this was just about as scary as that.

She didn’t move, her normally expressive face gave nothing away.

“And what’s plan B?” she asked in a steady voice.

“Plan B is, you need more time,” I admitted. “I’ll go back to Florida and make occasional trips here, or you can visit me. We’ll talk on the phone and see where it goes from there.”

“And you said that plan A is your preference?”

“Of course it is.”

Not going to lie, her indifference was pissing me off. Then again, after what I’d done to her two years ago, I deserved to be the one putting their heart on the line this time.

Freya sat back and pressed her fingers to her lips, tapping them as she thought.

“And what if I decide that you’ve been a good ride, but it’s just not working out?”

I legit growled, rejecting the idea of us ‘not working out’.

Freya burst into laughter, her hands gripping my arm while my eyes narrowed on her.

“I’m just fucking with you,” she cackled. “I prefer plan A, too.”

I was supremely irritated, but the warmth and joy on her face made the feeling fade as undeniable happiness smoldered in my chest.

“Really?” I asked, unable to hold back my own uncertainty that she would just go along.

Freya’s smile softened as she scooted closer and pressed her hands to my face.

“Do I wish we had more time to figure things out? Sure. But you know things don’t always work out the way we’d like them to. Still, I’m ok with that. I’m sure we’ll run through some rough spots because we kind of got thrown into the deep end together, but we’re grown ups. Isn’t that what you just said, that you’re a mature man?”

I couldn’t help but chuckle at that. She was right. I’d stated as much just minutes ago.
