I nodded, offering it to him.

“How's your head?” I asked him, following him to the table while trying to calm my raging pulse.

He's still here.

I had to keep reminding myself of that, because the terror and heartache was fresh all over again and it scared the ever living shit out of me.

“I'll be fine,” he dodged. “Food will help.”

Fine my ass.

I didn't press him though. If he wanted to pretend that he was fine, then who was I to deny him a sense of normalcy ?

“Oh, yeah,” he groaned, pulling out both sandwiches before handing the smaller one to me.

With a crinkle of paper, he dug in immediately, making more foodgasm noises as he ate. And what's a girl to do?

I moaned louder.

Chapter 34

Ashton

I loved being with her, but I was going abso-fucking-lutely insane. Not to mention the little fact that she was working and I was not. Added on top of that total shitshow, we still hadn't figured out a damn thing between us after a whole week, and were still unsure as to what we were doing and where we were at in an 'us' sort of way. So I was hanging out, playing stay-at-home boyfriend, trying not to pull my Goddamn hair out. Speaking of, I could use a trim.

Our dinner with Tommy and Karma was in less than two hours, and I hoped that maybe some decisions could be made before then. Hope was the wrong word. Decisions needed to be made before then.

I heard the scrape of a key in the door, just like it had at ten past four o'clock last night. On the dot.

She looked tired as she dumped her briefcase by the door, and I hated that. If only I could keep her barefoot and pregnant forever, with her feet up—

I shut down those thoughts immediately, because what the actual fuck was that? Pregnant?

I rubbed at my head, hating myself a little for how epically sexy that seemed in my fucked up brain, her round with my baby, but she took it for another headache.

“Shit, are you ok? Is it your head? We can cancel tonight…”

“No we can't.” I shook my head. “We made a promise, so we need to be there.”

“If it's your head, they'll understand, Ash.”

“It’s not my head. This whole thing is just stressing me out. We need to make some choices, and I'm just…I'm not sure you're ready to.”

“What do you mean I’m not ready? And you are? You've made up your mind?”

She was all kinds of sparked up for no damn reason, which I found adorable. Freya all worked up was one of my favorite things.

“Yeah, I’ve made up my mind,” I told her with a smile on my face. “The question is, have you?”

Freya shoved her hands through her gorgeous blonde hair and sighed, sounding all put out by the conversation.

“I’d like to give you more time, but you know when we see your folks tonight that they’re going to want answers. So, we need to have some to give them.”

“Stop acting all grown up and mature,” she snorted, giving me the stink eye.

I sent a deadpan look right back that made her giggle.

“You do realize that I can’t fucking help being mature. You know you don’t want a boy in a man’s body.”
