“I’m sure you have. Doesn’t make me want to leave you here alone when I don’t have anywhere I’ve gotta be.”

“Don’t you have that sexy Trans Am to go home to?”

“Yeah, but you’ll make it up to me by doing the shit jobs on her.”

I snorted and made my way toward him, until I was practically nose to nose, because he wasn’t budging from his spot, blocking the doorway.

“You going to move?” I asked, my voice a choked whisper as his warmth and scent wafted over me.

“No.” His voice rumbled low and deep in his chest, vibrating against my skin as my body drew closer.

With a puff of his chest, we touched for the briefest second as his hand lifted and brushed over my cheek, then curved around the back of my neck.

My lips popped open in shock and lust, my weight leaning forward onto my toes to lift towards him…just as he dragged me forward and around him, moving me past him in one swift push.

I stumbled into the hall on the outside of my office while he let out one of his rusty laughs.

“Asshole,” I rasped while storming away and toward Dad’s office while he trailed behind me.

Once I got the envelopes in the safe, I sidestepped around him in the doorway again to avoid smelling him, then dug my keys out of my bag to lock up. I clicked in my heels through the office, turning out the lights as I went toward the showroom and checked all the exterior doors.

“You locked up the garage, right?” I threw over my shoulder to the annoying man following behind me.

“Yep!” he called back a lot closer than I’d realized.

I jumped, but tried to cover it up by shoving through the glass doors in front of me.

The bright lights flicked off with an audible whoosh as the room plunged into darkness. I reached for my phone to lead the way out since all the shades were closed over the windows, but Ashton grabbed my hand and pulled me along through the blackness before I could turn on the flashlight.

Did the guy have night vision goggles implanted into his eyeballs?

We slipped through the front door, the bright Las Vegas sunset glaring in my eyes and blinding me while I tried to find the key to close up shop. I finally stuck the right one in the lock and finished the job of closing up for the night.

“Your car around back?” Ashton asked, his hand over his eyes as he squinted, looking over the empty parking lot.

“Yeah, but I decided you’re buying me dinner, so you can drive and bring me back here when we’re done with the Firebird.”

“Oh you did, did you?” he drawled with amusement tinging his voice. “Alright, well, the truck’s over there. Let’s get outta here.”

I walked a step behind him to the truck and hauled myself into the passenger seat. It was a tall truck, the kind you had to climb into, and I had a lot of fond memories in it with Dad when he’d be home between deployments.

“It’s your last ride, baby,” Ashton said to the truck, patting the dash as it started up, sounding a little worse for wear as the starter turned over.

“I’m thinking either burgers or chicken,” I told him, clicking my seatbelt on.

“Hm, tough choice,” he agreed. “How about Indian?”

“Aw, shit, now that you bring it up, that sounds delicious,” I groaned, already tasting the naan and onion bhaji in my mouth.

He chuckled and pulled away, flicking on the radio in the process as we left the parking lot. Meanwhile, the guy handed me his phone with Curry House already pulled up on the screen.

“You had no intention of letting me decide where we were going to eat, did you?” I accused, pushing the button down to call in our pickup order.

He just smirked as the phone rang.

It was a good ten minutes to the Indian restaurant, and hopefully our order was ready to go because the air outside the place was infused with spices and the fatty smell of tandoori meat. It made my stomach rumble.

“Pickup for Freya,” Ashton told the guy at the front of the reception desk while half a dozen people waited to be seated.
