Sometimes he said things that melted me from the inside out, and other times he could gut me with a single whispered sentence.

“What kind of question is that?” he scoffed. “There’s no question about who is the better between us.”

“There is to me,” I admitted.

He rolled over, sending me sprawling into my back as he crawled over me, muscles bulging as strong arms framed me.

“Did you hear the call I just had with Tom?” he asked, dropping his lips to mine for a delicate kiss.

I nodded as one hand lifted from the mattress and trailed down the center of my body as his knees spread my thighs further apart.

“Mhm,” I murmured, brain stuttering and glitching as his strong fingers dragged through the sticky wetness leftover from our earlier tryst.

Plunging his finger inside me once, he drew it out and slid my arousal up to circle my belly button. All kinds of wires were misfiring as sparks lit up behind my eyelids.

“Believe it or not, Freya, I already gave everything up for you. Tommy, Karma, Vegas, a job I liked here. I did it all for you.”

“You did it out of cowardice,” I countered, struggling to get the words past my lips.

He hummed, hands sliding back up in the valley between my breasts, stroking alluring fingers beneath, thumb brushing the underside of one.

“A little,” he admitted. “But I mostly did it because I thought that was what you needed. What you’d want in the long run. I might be fun right now, but you’ll outgrow me.”

Shaking myself out of the sensations he was filling me with, I gripped his hand and looked into his eyes.

“You used to believe that, or you still do?” I begged, hating the desperation in my voice.

He shook his head, taking his hand away from mine.

“Used to. But still kind of do. I mean, I heard you, but that still doesn’t make this click.”

“Isn’t love enough, Ash?”

He shrugged, spreading his knees further which opened my legs even wider.

“To be honest, I’ve never loved anyone before, so I don’t really know.”

God, that broke my heart.

“You really think I’ll just, what, grow bored of you?”

He gave a half-hearted shrug as his hands pulled up my knees, lifting my ass to cradle it against his cock.

“Maybe. But I’ll do whatever I can to keep you interested.”

Denials were on my lips, but he thrust inside me, slamming so hard I swallowed those words again. Further and further down my throat they went until I couldn’t even remember them with each slap of his hips.

Our conversation wasn’t done, but I was perfectly fine taking a brief recess.

I was starving. Ravenous, and not for his body for the first time all afternoon.

“Food,” I told him, giving one last lick to his neck as I stumbled off him.

He gave a sultry moan and reached after me while I fell off the side of the bed.

“That’s right,” he murmured, sitting up and shoving both his hands through his hair. “You interrupted my dinner.”

I barked out a laugh.
