“Should we talk?” I ask.

I hate ruining these moments but so much happened to us today.

“Yeah, baby, what about?”

“I know there’s so much to say, but, Lachlan, I have a question for you.”

“Uh-oh, popping the question already, Goldie girl?” he smirks.

“I guess I am,” I tease back.

“What is it?”

He’s playing with the ends of my hair that have fallen forward. I love the comfort and ease between us.

“Well, I know you have to move somewhere since you can’t stay where you are…” I stammer.

This is harder than I thought it would be, somehow.

“What if you move in here with me?”

“I’d fucking love that,” he replies with a wide smile.

Lachlan pulls me in closer to him, placing one of his fingers under my chin and pushing up gently. I’m looking up at him when he crashes his lips to mine. I lift my leg over his hip to bring him closer to my body.

He breaks away first.

“Are you sure, Avery?”

“Definitely. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life than I am of you, Lachlan.”

I know we still have a few more roads to cross, especially with Kevin, but I want him. In my bed. In my apartment. I want it all to be ours.

Lachlan is mine. My person. My soulmate. My forever.

“Then it’s settled.”

I smile up at him and soak in the moment.

“We probably have some other things to go over, too… like our days.” I laugh.

“Oh right, the hurdles of our lives.” He laughs.

“But we’ll get through it all,” I remind him.

“That’s right, fucking everything together. We’re a team now, baby.” He grins.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

And for that, I get one of my favorite blinding smiles from Lachlan.

“Well, I guess to jump right into it…”

I brace myself for his reaction to me seeing Kevin today. Not because he’ll be mad but because I know he worries about me.

I finally have someone in my corner. And it’s the person I want to stay there forever.
