Avery laughs before pulling me toward the bathroom.

“Definitely turning into a caveman.”

Chapter 26

God is in its midst; it shall not be shaken; God will help it at break of day.

Psalm 46:5

With one day to go until the gala, I have been becoming more at ease with my future. I have been looking into possibilities for what to do with my life for some time now. This new future is laden with possibilities. A chance to finally create the life I want.

I have a past now filled with more hurt than someone should experience in a lifetime, but I’ve proven to myself time and time again that I can conquer what’s in front of me.

I decided to change up my routine from my days as Kevin’s trophy wife. I’ve been switching up my exercise routine and trying new workout classes that don’t focus solely on my appearance but also on how I feel inside.

The gala showed me that I love being creative and that my main passion is helping people. I should have realized this before, but I never really understood what kept drawing me back to the Church outside of my role as Kevin’s wife.

I’m now on the path to starting up my own company. One where I’ll find a cause that I want to support and pour my energy into it. It’s the best of all worlds for me. Helping people, finding new ways to get new donors, creating events to support it, and everything else that will go into it.

First and foremost, I need to find the right cause to support. Then get Fisher to help me start it up. I know he’ll be happy that I’ve found my voice and passion. He’s stoic but always supportive when he needs to be.

“Lachlan, what do you think about me starting a charity organization? One that wouldn’t keep anything for itself other than to operate and could really help people. I have the money, and I think that’s what I want to do with my life.”

Lachlan and I are sitting on my—our—balcony watching the sunrise. It’s a crisp day, and I’m cuddled into the nook of his arms. My warm coffee is steaming on the table in front of me.

I never knew happiness could look like this—cold sunny mornings, fluffy socks, and an easy conversation with the love of my life.

Lachlan places a gentle kiss on the top of my head. I cuddle even closer into him.

“I think that’s perfect for you, Avery.”

I smile.

“Really?”

“Yeah, really. You’re an angel. I think you’ll find fulfillment in it. Your next step should be something that brings you joy and peace. And helping people is my passion too; I can be involved if you like.”

“I would like, very much so,” I smile against him.

Wait…

“Joy and peace? Is Christmas your favorite holiday?” I tease him.

He laughs lightly.

“You know, I haven’t been a fan of holidays, but I think this year I’m going to say yeah, fucking Christmas is my favorite holiday, so watch out, baby.” He chuckles.

“You’re going to go all out, aren’t you?”

“You better believe it, Goldie girl,” he teases.

I reach forward to grab my coffee and bring it close to his mug.

“Good, I like the idea of starting new traditions with you.” I clink my mug to his before taking a sip.

Gently, I place it back down on the coffee table.

“Me too.” He gives me another kiss on my head.
