I’ve come to cherish these small kisses. A little reminder that he’s mine.

“But yeah, Avery, I think you just need the right cause to support. You already have all of the connections you need here. It’s a great idea.”

“Thank you.” Another smile takes over.

I used to never smile this much, but around Lachlan, I just can’t help it.

“And I’ll be your first donor, whatever you pick.”

That reminds me…

“Lachlan, I don’t mean to be so nouveau riche, but how do you have money? I’ve seen your car, and that is not a priest’s car.” I laugh.

Lachlan joins in, amused by my question.

“It’s from my time at the consulting company before I became a priest. Too much money too young, but I did one thing right and that was invest some of it.”

“Oh, so you won’t need to work?”

“No, baby, I won’t need to work. But will I? Yes. I can’t sit around for the rest of my life, either. Like I said, I’d be happy to help you with your new company; otherwise, I’ll be finding something else.”

“To new beginnings together then,” I say.

“Together is all I care about,” he remarks.

Titling my head up slightly, I give him a peck on his cheek.

“Alright, Father Lachlan, you have got to get ready for the day. Almost done,” I sing-song as I pull him up with me.

“Thank fuck,” he mutters.

I swat his shoulder playfully at that.

“Come on, my angel, want to get dirty with me in the shower?” he smirks.

“You know I always want to.”

Lachlan guides me into the shower and really shows me that he meant every word about how if we were together, he would guarantee orgasms every morning.

I went out with Lachlan hoping to reach my attorney, Noah, before his day started. It’s before nine a.m., but I expect he’s always at the office early. I frequently received emails before eight a.m. from him with updates.

Giving Lachlan a small wave goodbye, I cross the street to Noah’s office.

I open the front door to his building and greet his receptionist. She calls Noah to confirm I can head back. He says yes, of course.

I fill him in on the latest that Lachlan overheard and ask where we're at with everything. Getting divorced is never easy, but I’ve been praying to make this go away. Make my Kevin problem disappear for good.

Noah sinks further into his chair and looks at me pensively. Taking in everything I shared before responding to my questions.

“I think it’s time to go big, Avery. I know you didn’t want to fight hard, but it’s time. I’ve been working on it behind the scenes since we last spoke, but my question is, do you trust me?”

I don’t even have to think about it. Noah is one of the few people in Charleston I do trust.

“Yes,” I reply.

“Good, don’t go anywhere you think Kevin might be in case of retaliation. We’re going after him now.”

“I won’t, thank you.”
