Noah had filed complaint after complaint against Kevin, and I even have a restraining order against him now. My divorce will most likely be finalized in the coming weeks instead of months. And now we have legally stated that I am not, nor have I ever been, the CEO of this shell company. Honestly, I don’t even fully grasp how much Noah is handling for me with all of this.

He is the best possible attorney I could have selected, and I’m glad he’s taking all of these twists and turns in stride. I’m grateful for him and his team of attorneys.

Lachlan comes up behind me and rubs my shoulders. Naturally, my head falls back to rest on him.

“That feels nice,” I whisper.

He places a kiss on the back of my head.

“Feel better?”

Turning around, I look at the man who has turned my world upside down for the better.

“Yes, but I can’t believe how much he’s been doing. I know he didn’t do all of that in a day, but the fact that he had that much foresight to begin preparing all of the necessary documentation is so relieving.”

“I’m sure he’s had plans for that restraining order since you first met with him.”

“You’re right, and you know his practice is more expensive than some of the other attorney offices here.” I laugh before continuing.

“But I get it. What a team to get all of this done. Well worth the cost.”

If I can’t find amusement in the little things, I think I’d go crazy.

“So tonight, you aren’t going to go?” Lachlan asks.

Taking his hand in mine, I lead us to the couch.

“No, chances are he’s still going to be there, and he is probably furious with me.”

“Don’t you think he knows you’ll be there, and he can’t show up now there’s the restraining order in place?”

“I just can’t chance it.”

“Don’t worry, Goldie girl, I understand. I think it’s for the best. I’m just sad for you that you won’t be able to see all of your hard work pay off. The gala is going to look amazing, thanks to you.”

“Not just because of me,” I start.

“Definitely because of you, baby,” he repeats.

“Well, thank you, but take lots of pictures for me and then return home as fast as you can.” I smile at him.

“Home, I fucking love that.” He returns my smile.

“I just can’t let him win. I wanted a clean break, and he’s made it all so chaotic.”

“I know it’s hard, Avery. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for you, but Kevin is clearly corrupt. We know that. Let’s just get you out of it all, and he won’t win. You’ve got a team with you, you aren’t alone anymore,” Lachlan gets out.

“I do, don’t I? So are you part of this team?” I tease.

“I’m the fucking number one fan at the very least,” he laughs out.

I lean in and give Lachlan a kiss. My hands thread through the back of his hair to deepen our connection.

“Fuck, don’t start something we can’t finish,” he groans against my lips.

“I think we can be quick,” I smirk.

Lachlan lets out a louder groan as he stands before scooping me up into his arms.
