I’m too anxious to continue working on the next steps for my non-profit organization or anything of real importance.

This feels like Kevin is still controlling my life. But that’s not completely true. I am getting free from his constraints because Noah is working on it. He’s working on this for me so I can be free to live my life without Kevin.

With everything intense already happening, we had to get those photos yesterday. Someone knows where I live and what Lachlan does.

As much as I believe it’s Kevin, I don’t know for a fact who it is or what their intentions are. Is it just to scare me? It’s working if it is.

Maybe getting a hotel room would be a smarter idea than staying in my apartment after receiving such an ominous message, but I don’t want to run. This is my home, and I won’t let someone make me feel unsafe in it.

I need to speak with the building security guard on duty. Someone let the mystery person up to my apartment to slide the photos under my door. Either the person lives here or someone was given access. I need to rule out the possibilities.

I quickly change into athletic gear and lock up behind me.

Making my way quickly downstairs, I see Bart, one of the security guards, behind the front desk.

“Hi, Ms. Parker, how can I help you?”

“Hi, Bart. I was hoping you could help me figure out who left a package at my door.”

His eyebrows bunch together, and he has a quizzical expression on his face.

“Excuse me, miss? A package?”

“That’s right. It was really one of those manilla envelopes. It didn’t have anyone’s contact information on it, and it’s a super generic item. I am trying to figure out who it was,” I say.

I don’t want to share that I’m worried about what I received with him just yet.

“Sorry, ma’am, but no one would be allowed to do that. It would have to be a resident. I can take a look at the footage. Do you know anyone in this building?”

I shake my head no.

“Very strange. My best bet is that someone handed it to a resident to take to your unit. I can check security footage and get back to you this evening.”

“Thank you, that would be great.”

I already have my answer, though. I know it was Kevin or someone who works with him on his corrupt business dealings. Bart and I review a few details to help him narrow down when it would have happened.

Back out front of my apartment, I look around at the other units on my floor. I really should get to know my neighbors.

After unlocking the door, I step inside and nearly slide across the room. I bring my hand to my heart to steady myself.

“Fuck,” I mumble.

What was that?

I look around on the ground to find another envelope. Just like the one I was inquiring about downstairs.

Goosebumps take over my body.

Quickly surveying the room, I dash to the kitchen and grab a knife. I check my apartment room by room and find it’s empty.

Reaching into my pocket, I find my cell phone and call Lachlan. It goes to voicemail. I shoot him a quick text to call me back.

At least I’m not going to be attacked in here… right?

I bend down to where the envelope is on the ground and pick it up. Reaching inside, I pull out another stack of photos. More of Lachlan and me. Slowly, I flip through each one.

The first is of us at Jackson’s.
