I wasn’t expecting that and blink in surprise. “A walk?”

I can’t keep the excitement from my voice as my bad mood evaporates in a flash.

“Now?”

He nods. “As soon as we’ve changed. I want to make your dreams come true and this is the first of many.”

He carefully takes the book from my hand and sets it down on the table.

“Come. We can change and grab a bite to eat in the park. I’ve heard amazing things about their hotdogs.”

Why does this man take my bad moods and crush them under his soft expression and sweet words? I can’t stay mad at him for long and I nod happily. “I would like that. Thank you.”

It doesn’t take us long to head upstairs and change, and we are soon spilling out onto the street and joining the rest of humanity on the sidewalk.

“Aren’t you afraid?” I ask as he cradles my hand in his as we move through the crowds.

“Afraid?” He appears amused. “I don’t know the meaning of that word.”

I glance around and note a couple of his guards following at a respectful distance and I nudge him sharply in the ribs.

“You are afraid of being out on your own. That’s why you have your babysitters shadowing you.”

He shakes his head and smirks. “As I said before, they are here for you. You are still my captive and if you try to escape, they will prevent it.”

I shake my head and say with a sigh, “I am only here because you are preventing me from getting away. How does that make you feel?”

He shrugs indifferently. “I can live with that as long as I keep you.”

“I’m not a possession, Mikhail.”

“No, my little flower, you are an obsession, and that is way more valuable than anything else.”

He stops and swing me around to face him and holds my face in his hands. “I am going to make you want to stay, Lilli flower because you will soon realize that I am the best thing in your life, and you would be a fool to walk away from me.”

“Is that right?” I roll my eyes. “You’re such a fucking asshole, Mikhail.”

He plants a deep kiss on my lips and when he pulls away, he whispers, “But I’m your fucking asshole Lilli, and there is nothing you can do about that.”

As we continue our walk, I take in the surroundings, and it seems different somehow. More vibrant than I expected. Less crowded and more interesting than usual and I expect it’s down to the company I’m keeping.

We make our way to the park and as we walk along paths with flower borders strewn at intervals, I appreciate the beauty of the place.

I can’t stop smiling and point out various things of interests with happiness.

“Look over there.” I say with a giggle as I notice two teenagers making out on a park bench.

A dog bounds toward us and jumps up at me, wagging its tail and barking loudly.

“Hey little fella, where’s your owner?” I croon and a woman yells in the distance, “Tyson. Get down, you bad dog. Come here.”

With a happy bark, Tyson heads off at speed in her direction and I laugh out loud. “I never thought I’d meet a giant white poodle called Tyson. That was an interesting choice of name.”

Mikhail chuckles and as the sun warms my skin, I begin to appreciate this simple pleasure.

It’s as if we are free of any cares or worries. Out here among the crowds, we are just one of them. Blending in and living life along with everyone else.

We head toward the hot dog stand and wait in line, and it strikes me how unusual this must be, and I say apologetically. “I’m sorry to drag you here, Mikhail. You’re probably hating this.”
