“Do you know that it’s only been two or three months since you’ve met Killian?”

My eyes widened slightly. “Only two months?” I questioned, confused. “It feels like it’s been a lot longer… So much has happened already.”

“A lot can happen in such little time..” She spoke, and I nodded my head. She then stared at me with a small smile on her face. “Brielle.. have I ever lied to you?”

“Only a few times, but I always know it’s for my benefit. So all in all, not really..”

“So, believe me when I tell you this.” She began, and I listened.

“Okay..”

“You’re in love with him.” When she spoke, I thought she’d grown two heads. I started laughing hysterically as I couldn’t stare at her face, which was now ever so serious. Once I calmed down, I could feel my heart beating quickly, and as I realized exactly what she said… my cheeks went bright red, and I felt my body temperature rise. I glanced back at her, not saying anything, as my mind was blank.

I’m…in love with him?

Chapter forty-one

Brielle

Putting the casserole on the stovetop, I wiped my forehead and went to the sink to wash the dishes. It was around eight, and Killian hadn’t returned from the office yet. After what Madam A said to me this afternoon, I had to distract myself because the mere thought of him made me feel overwhelmed.

It was like something in my mind was blocking this feeling, and when it surfaced, that barrier came crashing down, and I was putty in his hands. We came back just about two hours ago, and I decided to cook to occupy my mind, but it wasn’t working, and I almost overdid it.

Benjamin took Delilah upstairs to get her ready for bed, and I could tell he noticed something was off about my behavior. Standing at the sink, I focused my thoughts and actions on scrubbing the pan with all of my force as I tried to deny what my conscience was telling me.

I’m not in love with him.

I continued repeating the exact words in my head and scrubbing the pan even harder. But the voice in the back of my mind wouldn’t go away or relieve me from this feeling that was so overbearing.

You’re in love with him.

Dropping the pan and sponge in the sink, I held onto the edge as I closed my eyes. I almost laughed at how pathetic I was being. After a few seconds of doing nothing, I picked up the sponge and scrubbed again. I relaxed my mind slightly and took deep breaths to calm down. But my breath quickly got caught in my throat when I felt two arms slip around my waist.

I quickly turned out of their hold and looked up to see the man himself gazing down at me. Being in his presence felt more different than usual. Just with his touch alone, I could feel myself melt a little inside. He moved closer to touch me again, and I tried backing away from him, which proved to be impossible as the sink hindered me from doing so. He succeeded by wrapping his arm around my waist, and I hoped he wouldn’t see my feeble attempt to back away from him, but being Killian, he noticed the minute I did it.

“Good evening, Brielle..” He said lowly, and I responded.

“G-good evening, Killian..” He took a quick glance around the room, and his eyes landed back on me.

“Looks like you’ve been busy..” I nodded and tried to distance myself from him again, but it clearly wasn’t working, and I looked like an idiot. For goodness sake, we’ve engaged in so many sinful activities already, and I had never felt this way near him. But the second I realize I’m in love with him, I can barely keep it together.

“Yep.. Wanted to give Ben a break from cooking… If you’ll just excuse me, I’m going to go get ready for dinner.” I slipped out of his hold briefly, though I didn’t get far as he wrapped his arm around my stomach and chuckled. I jumped when he brushed a piece of my hair behind my ear as my back was against his chest.

“You seem more jittery than normal, love… tell me.. what’s on your mind?”

“N-nothing, I’m just a little tired.” He rubbed small patterns on my stomach, and I slowly touched his wrist.

“Well, I can imagine why, darling, you’ve had a long day..” I nodded and stiffened again once I felt a kiss on my neck.God, it’s like he wants me to explode. He pulled away, gazing down at me as he said nothing. I knew when he got silent like this, he was trying to read someone’s emotions or ‘thoughts,’ as Blaine likes to put it.

I gulped softly as he turned me around and backed me against the kitchen island. He placed his hand on the side of my face as I tried to keep it emotionless. He leaned in closer, and once he placed his lips on mine, my mind was in total bliss.

I placed my hand in his hair and tugged softly as I could feel my knees buckling. He chuckled and picked me up, making me squeal softly as he sat me on the countertop. I sighed into the kiss as he ran his hand on my inner thighs. I pulled away from him and looked up at him as he was already staring down at me. He placed his hands on the edge of the countertop and leaned in as he trapped me.

He tilted his head as he spoke. “Whatever it is that you’re hiding from me, Brielle, I’ll get it out of you eventually or..” He shrugged as he pulled back a little.

“I already know what it is.”He left the kitchen, and I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding. Pushing the hair out of my face, I sighed as I knew I had to come to terms with what my heart and conscience were telling me soon enough… no matter the outcome that would result from it.

Hopping down from the counter, I went to take a quick shower, and afterward, I walked over to Delilah’s bedroom. Opening the door, I smiled as I saw Benjamin holding two outfits by her closet.
